Update from Nurse Hammons
SHOTS FOR CURRENT 6th GRADERS PREPARING for 7th GRADE
Parents of current 6th graders, please continue to turn in the two shots required for 7th grade. Turning in early is always appreciated and helps prevent a hold on your child’s schedule
What shots are needed for 7th Grade? TDAP (adacel) and MCV4 (menactra or meningococcal)
Where can parents see the immunizations once turned in? These shots are entered electronically after a record is provided and can be found in your child’s parent portal
Positivity Project
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Love of Learning. Love of learning means you master new topics on your own or in school.
Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize of a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.
Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.
To practice and encourage the character strength of love of learning with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
Aledo ISD Parent Survey
Beginning Monday, Feb. 27, 2023 through 4 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, we are asking all Aledo ISD parents and guardians to complete an online survey that will address topics such as engagement, safety and climate in your child’s schools. These surveys are completely anonymous; we will only ask that you identify which campus you are completing the survey about.
A link to the survey will be sent from the communications@aledoisd.org email address on Monday, Feb. 27, to parents and guardians using the email we have on file through the Parent Portal system. Please fill out the survey once for each campus where you have a child attending; so if you have a child at McCall Elementary, McAnally Middle School and Aledo High School, you would fill out the survey three times, selecting a different campus each time.
Your feedback and opinions are very important to us, and we use data from this survey to better understand your expectations and areas that we can improve to better serve our Bearcat students and families.
Congratulations UIL Participants
We are so proud of our UIL competitors! We will be recognizing winners individually at our end-of-year awards ceremonies! Overall, AMS placed 2nd overall. Our 6th Grade team placed 2nd overall, 7th Grade placed 3rd overall, and 8th Grade replaced 2nd overall! Great job, UIL competitors!
School Zone Reminder
Please remember that our traffic circle is a cell phone free zone! We have had a lot of distracted cell phone users - please help us keep our students and staff safe!
Bearcat of Character - Mark Ogden
Mark Ogden is always positive and optimistic in class. He displays this character daily! I don't think I have ever heard him complain and he regularly lifts up others around him with his words of encouragement! Mark deserves the honor of being nominated as AMS Bearcat Most Optimistic Student.
Late Arrivals
Lunch Deliveries
In the event that you need to deliver lunch to your student, please follow the steps below:
- Please be sure that the lunch is clearly labeled with your student's first and last name.
- Upon entering AMS, please place your student's lunch in the bin assigned to your student's grade level lunch.
- The bins will be delivered at the start of each lunch period. Students will be responsible for getting their lunches from the bin.
Again, we request that you limit lunch deliveries when possible. Also, in order to limit distractions, we will not call students out of class to receive lunches.
Thank you for your help with this!
