Around the RANCH

#YouCantStopExcellence - Volume 2.12 - October 31 , 2021

A Message from the Principal

There are a lot of great things going on around the RANCH that I am so proud of and hope that you are too! Thank you for showing how #YouCantStopExcellence at JWMHS!

Happy Halloween! We hope that you stay safe tonight and have a spooky good time!

We are now in the second half of first semester and students needs to make sure that they are continuing to work hard. For GPA purposes, the grade posted on the transcript is a combination of Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 grades. There is still time to improve your semester grade that will be on your transcript!

We are starting our Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive tomorrow! Each RANCH will have a box where students can bring in items that we will donate to different families in the community. Please bring in non-perishable items.

In December, we will do our traditional “Baby It’s Cold Outside” baby clothes and baby items drive. We will start this after the Thanksgiving Holidays!

Congratulations to Boys Swimming and Diving who won the District Championship and the Girls who came in 3rd. Best wishes at Regionals to those who qualified! Congratulations to Boys and Girls Mustang Cross Country and Girls and Boys Mustang Golf who will be going to Regionals as well! Congratulations to Mustang Volleyball who remains undefeated this season and has will be hosting the Regional Semi-Final this Wednesday at 7PM against LOLHS.

We also want to congratulate the Marching Mustangs who were Grand Champions at the Newsome HS Music Festival improving their overall score by more than 9 points! Good luck this week at your Marching Band Performance Assessment this weekend!

Best wishes to our NJROTC Orienteering Team this week at their competition!

Seniors! Please make sure that you go on our website and complete the form to order your cap and gown and diploma! (https://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/mform/view.php?id=75615.)

On Thursday, November 4th at 830AM we will have our Senior Panoramic for the Class of 2022. All seniors should report to their 1st period classes and we will then release to the gymnasium. If you have off campus during this time, please come to campus for the picture and then you can either leave until your report time or stay in the media center. This is a one time group picture of the senior class. Don’t miss out!

All paperwork for Winter and Spring Sports will now be completed online at Athletic Clearance (https://athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org/). This can also be found on our website. If you played a fall sport, see Mrs. Dixon for a copy of your paperwork so that you can upload it.

As a reminder, all tickets for sporting events must be purchased via GoFan (https://gofan.co/search) and we will not accept paper tickets or screenshots. The ticket must be on your mobile device.

If you have an eSchool placeholder, on campus or off campus, please continue to work on your classes as they need to be completed by the end of the first semester.

Parking on campus is a privilege and you must have a hangtag and spot to park on campus. Applying for a spot does not guarantee parking. In fact, there is a currently a waiting list for those who want to park. If you have not applied, you will not be on the waiting list if a spot opens. Please follow our rules.

Please make sure that you can pass the Covid-19 screener (Student Covid-19 Screener) each morning that is found on our website. If you cannot, please stay home. If you are positive for Covid-19 or have been exposed to someone who is positive for Covid-19, please stay home and contact your administrator so that we can help you with your school work.

The best way to be successful at JWMHS is to listen to the things we say and read the information that we put out. We communicate in a variety of ways and ask that you make sure that you are paying attention and following us on social media.

We want to remind you that you need to respect each other and just be nice. Calling each other names, posting negative things online, and acting inappropriately towards each other is uncalled for and unnecessary. Again, just be nice. And if you can’t find something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.

I am very proud of the things going on in Mustang Nation and I hope they continue through this week!

You can expect weekly newsletters to keep you up to date as to what is happening at JWMHS around the ranch, as well as a weekly School Messenger call on Sunday night around 6:30PM. A good way of staying up to date on school information is to visit our website at https://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/ and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (both @JWMHS), as well as like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jwmitchellhighschool! From there you can find several sources of information that will keep you informed of all the happenings at JW Mitchell High School.

We will strive to provide the best education possible for your child. If at any time during the school year you feel the need to contact me, please email me at jschultz@pasco.k12.fl.us or call (727) 774-9202.

We hope that you have a great week! Go Mustangs!

Each teacher shall establish a set policy for make-up work and a grading system and shall submit a written description of his/her grading system to the principal and students at the beginning of the course.

Procedures for Checking In or Out of School
Students need to arrive on time and stay through dismissal so they will receive important directions, class instruction and avoid disrupting other students. Parents can set a good example by encouraging students to follow the school’s time schedule. (Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)
Students who come to campus late or need to leave campus early MUST provide parental permission.

Procedure for checking IN to school

  • Students should report to Student Services upon arriving at school.
  • Students should provide documentation for excuse of tardiness. Determination of the type of absence will be done by the Attendance Secretary.

  • A check out pass will be issued by the Attendance Secretary with the time and date of early release.
  • Students should present this pass to their teachers at the time of release.

School attendance shall be the responsibility of parents and students.(Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)

The following are acceptable reasons for a student’s absences from class:

  • Issues and occasions specific to military families.

For purposes of attendance, school related activities and testing will not be counted as absences from school.

To Report an Absence

All students who are absent will be marked “unexcused” (U) until the parent/guardian notifies the school in writing or through the website and justifies the absence with one of the acceptable reasons as defined in Section 2. Parents should notify the school of a student’s absence and the reason for the absence with the appropriate note within three (3) school days of a student’s return to school. The form to report an excused absence can be found at http://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/mform/view.php?id=12087. Types of appropriate notes include parent notes, doctor notes or court paperwork.

Make-up Work

Students may make up any and all assignments, tests or related work assigned on the day(s) of any excused or unexcused absence at full credit. The student is responsible for asking the teacher(s) for make-up tests, assignments and related work. Students will be given a minimum of two (2) calendar days per day or period of absence to make up all tests, assignments and related work. Students may be given additional time as stipulated on their IEP or based on teacher discretion. Work due to be turned in on the day of the absence will be turned in upon return and be given full credit. Students who have been assigned out-of-school suspension (OSS) may make up all tests, assignments and related work for full credit. (Code of Conduct of Pasco County Schools)

Unexcused Absences, School Related Activities and Parking

At the secondary level, attendance is marked per period. •Lose of privilege to drive to campus until the end of the following grading quarter. Absences accumulated in the fourth quarter will result in loss of privileges during said grading quarter only and will not carry over to the following year.

The principal or designee may review extenuating circumstances brought forth by a parent/guardian. The principal’s decision is final.
