New Prospect Elementary School Staff Notes
This week our Staff Spotlight is on Megan Boegel! Megan has had a great transition to New Prospect and we are so happy she is a part of our family! When anyone walks in Mrs. Boegel’s room her kids are thinking! She sets herself up for success by having great classroom management, but that is mostly a direct result of her engaging lessons that she plans so well for! She has fully embraced Units of Study, 5th Grade & all new peers! All are brand new to her and she is rocking it!

Thanksgiving Feasts
The schedules are linked below. Please note which tables your class can sit at and what time your class will eat. This does not necessarily match your regular lunch time. There will be signs on the tables to help direct you and your students. We will have two lines open in the cafeteria on these days as well. The schedule indicates which line each class should go to, this is just to help evenly split the lines.
On the day when your class is not having Thanksgiving Feast, you will need to eat in your rooms or outside if the weather is nice. Students buying lunches will come to the cafeteria earlier in the day to pick up a jamwich or yogurt pack. Those will be the only lunch options on that day.
How to find Coverage for a Meeting (Reminder)
1. Go to the Coverage Folder on the Staff Google drive and open "Coverage FY19". This document lists our paras who are available to cover and will help us make sure we are not pulling the same people over and over without utilizing others.
2. Record the date and time of your meeting and the name of the teacher to be covered.
3. Put an x in the box under the name of the para to cover.
4. E-mail the para and the teacher (if you are arranging coverage for someone else) to let them know when they need to cover and where.
5. If desired, there are also reminder slips in the coverage folder you can place in the teacher and para's boxes as a reminder.

My #1 Non-Fiction Reading Intervention- PAWS PD
Do you have students who struggle to comprehend nonfiction text, especially in science and social studies? Do you want to provide rigor to students who need extension of their nonfiction comprehension skills? Come to my PAWS PD to learn about a research-based nonfiction instructional intervention to help students (low and high performing!) enhance content area learning. Students are engaged by working in small cooperative groups to deepen their comprehension while learning skills and strategies as they activate prior knowledge, make predictions and connections, understand vocabulary, summarize, and monitor their comprehension by asking/answering questions about the text. Collaborative Strategic Reading is a great way to get students to own their learning, not only in reading, but in science and social studies, too!
