Welcome to the first newsletter of the academic year. I am delighted to confirm to you some of the fantastic results achieved in last summer's examinations by Year 11 and 13 students. Please see links to the press releases in the next section.
Students have had a very positive start to the new school year and we are delighted that our new Year 7 and Sixth Form students have settled in so quickly. We wish a very warm welcome to our new parents. We are very keen to communicate with parents regularly and encourage you to contact us at any time. You will find contact details on our website and you will notice that the majority of communication will be sent from the school via email. We are also pleased to introduce our weekly parent surgeries, where a member of the leadership team will be on hand to speak with you face to face, further details are below.
In this newsletter, you will see that we have the opportunity for parents to support us as governors and you will find contact details for our clerk to governors.
Our new ParentPay system has been hugely successful and I would like to thank parents for their support and patience with this. Our school shop is also now open for students to purchase stationary, locker keys and ties, both before school and during tutor time. If you are having any problems with your ParentPay account, please do not hesitate to contact the school office - email@example.com
We are grateful for your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality, both to school and to lessons. Please be reminded that school starts at 8.40am and students should arrive before this time in order that they are ready to learn.
Keep up to date with a wide range of events and activities at Uxbridge High School by looking at our various Twitter accounts.
2nd October 2017 6pm - 8pm
Uxbridge High School Open Evening will take place on Monday 2nd October from 6pm - 8pm. Current students and their parents are encouraged to attend. It is a great opportunity to meet your son/daughter's teachers, explore our facilities and see the school in action. We hope to see many of you there.
Reminder - Amended school opening times for Open Evening
As many students will be taking part in the evening's activities and to help the completion of preparations for the event, school will close at 1.15pm on Monday 2nd October. Lunch will be available to those students who require this.
School will commence at a later time of 9.40am on Tuesday 3rd October.
If you require your son/daughter to be supervised at school during the brief closures, this can be arranged by contacting their House guidance leader.
Selected students from all year groups will be asked to attend the evening, who will then return to school at 5.30pm in order to take part, letters will be sent out regarding this. However all parents and students are encouraged to attend.
We would like to extend our openness and lines of communications to parents. To support this we will be introducing weekly leadership surgeries on Mondays from 3pm - 4pm.
Parents are most welcome to book an appointment with the school office if they have any queries or concerns they would like to discuss with a member of the leadership team. Please note that there will not be a leadership surgery on 2nd October due to Open Evening.

Safety at UHS
As a school, the safety of our students is our highest priority. We will be having a fire drill rehearsal in the coming week to ensure that every student is aware of the procedures in the unlikely event of a fire.
As always, we welcome the support of our local police through our dedicated safer schools officers and we are working with them to emphasise the importance of personal safety. In support of this, there will be a ‘security arch’ on the school site, for one day this term.
We will also welcome back our security dog to further raise safety awareness. The school is currently holding assemblies to re-cap on the importance of safety and safeguarding to students and to whom they should report concerns of any type. During these assemblies, students will also be reminded of our behaviour expectations both in school and in the wider community, particularly on buses and in Uxbridge.
Keeping Uxbridge High School a safe environment for all who work, and or study here is our top priority and any situation where a person's safety at Uxbridge High School is compromised will be addressed with severity.
You may be aware, we currently have a vacancy for a parent governor on our school’s active governing body. Our parent governors are very valuable members of the governing body. You do not need to be an expert in education to play a valuable role in the governing body but you will have the best interests of the school at heart and want to help our school be the best it can be.
Besides parents, the governing body includes the Principal and other members of staff, representatives of the Local Authority and people from the local community. All of these people play an important part in building good relationships between the school, parents and the wider community. Together they decide the key priorities for the school, help plan to achieve them, and then check whether the actions taken have had the desired impact. The governing body also plays an important role in deciding how the school’s budget should be spent, and it helps to appoint our staff.
If you would like to be considered as a parent governor or to find out more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Please be aware that any appointment will be subject to a satisfactory identity and Disclosure and Barring Service check
