Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Pleasantville Elementary School!
Good Afternoon PLV Families -
We hope families had a great time on Sunday at Milburn Orchards, it was a perfect fall day.
Thank you to all of PLV families that came to our Emoji Reading, Math & Book Fair Night last Thursday. What a fun night playing reading and math games. The Book Fair sold $8, 147.13 work of books last week! That is amazing!!
In September, we had our first fire drill and on Wednesday, Oct 12th, we had our first Lockdown Drill. We practice these drills once a month so that if we ever have an emergency, our students and staff know what to do in order to keep everyone safe.
This week is National School Lunch Week and its Peace, Love, and 70s Themed!! Our PLV Cafe Ladies have decorated the cafeteria and have fun dances for the students during their lunches. Thursday, Oct 13th, Delaware First Lady Tracey Quillen-Carney will be here to help us celebrate. In addition, October 13 will be 70s Spirit Day! Looking forward to seeing all the tie dye, peace & love outfits and crazy 70s hair styles.
Tuesday, Oct 11th Mrs. Zhang and Mr. Li and some of our Chinese Immersion students presented at the Colonial School Board Meeting. Students were paired up with school board and superintendent council members and they taught them 5 phrases in Chinese. Great job Chinese Immersion Students: Chloe D'Antonio, Christian Houghten, Chance Inge, Celina Scruggs, Anell Tyre, Laela Thomas, Teiji Forbes and Ian Robinson. SOCKtober is happening now! Students in Ms. Hudson's 5th grade class created a community project to help people in need. Please help them by sending in new pairs of socks in all sizes and genders. Students will donate all the socks to two different charities at the end of October.
PLV's PTA Candy Monsters are collecting bags of candy up through Oct 24th to help with our Trunk or Treat Event on Thursday, October 27th. Students will earn a fun sticker from our PLV PTA for donating a bag of candy.
Fall Pictures coming home Oct 12th. Retake Day is Tuesday, Nov. 1st. Also PLV SY22-23 Yearbooks are on sale now. Yearbooks are $18 before Jan. 15th and $20 after Jan. 15th. Deadline to order is April 21st, 2023. Credit Card orders through Barksdale Website ONLY. Important Information to Remember:
- School Opens at 8:45. Please do not drop off early. There is no supervision until the doors open at 8:45.
- PM Car Line is open at 3:00. Please do not come earlier because students have recess in our side lot.
- PLV Family Handbook 2022 - 2023 - Please Review (School Hours, Mission, Attendance, Late Arrival/Early Dismissal Procedures, Car Line, School Cafe, Communication Tools, and much more.
We are looking forward to another great year of academic achievement and growth for our students. One of our goals is to continue to improve communication between the school and our families. The Pleasantville Staff is looking forward to another great year of learning, growing, and developing. We are honored to have the opportunity to teach your children.

Communication Updates
- Pleasantville and Colonial will communicate via email, text message and robo calls. Please make sure we have the most updated contact information.
Class DoJo App
- Teachers and Admin will use Class Do to update upcoming events, send parents direct messages, etc.
- Teachers will be updating their individual Class Stories a minimum of 2x per week to keeo parents updated.
- The best way to contact your child's teacher/Admin is to send them a Direct Message through Class DoJo. Make sure you get connected!!
Updates for the Week of October 11th
- SOCKtober Community Service Project!! 5th Grade students in Ms. Hudson's 5th Grade classroom organized this community service project to support local charities by collecting socks! Please donate NEW SOCKS in all genders and sizes the entire month of October! Then our students will donate them to community members in need. Donation bins will be located in the Main Office and in Room 5.
- PTA Sponsored Trunk or Treat Event @ PLV will be Thursday, October 27th PLV Parking LOT from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Volunteers and Trunks are Needed!! If you'd like to volunteer or create a decorated family vehicle to hand out candy, please email PLVPTA@gmail.com.
- Trunk or Treat Candy Donations Needed!! Please donate a bag of candy to feed the Candy Monsters. All candy will help supplement teacher/participant candy at the Trunk or Treat Event on Oct. 27th. Students can bring in the unopened bags of candy and place in PLV's Candy Monster Bins created by the PTA starting Monday, October 3rd.

School Start & End Times
8:45 Doors Open (Arrival)
- Students will be considered late after 9:00 AM and will need to be signed in at the Main Office with Ms. Cheryl, our Secretary. Parents will use a QR Code to sign students in late. Please bring your phone with you inside.
- Students may not be dropped off early to PLV, unless they are signed up for YMCA Before Care. There is no supervision of students on the front or side sidewalks.
3:35 Student Dismissal
- We will start the dismissal process inside the building at 3:30.
- Students will need to be signed out at the Main Office with Ms. Cheryl for Early Dismissals

Car Riders
Cars may start to enter the Car Rider Lot at 3:00 (no earlier). Students have recess in that lot up til 3:00 each day.
Parents may not park in the front and come into the building at dismissal. Colonial buses unload and load students in the front of the building.
