Matzke School-Wide Student Blog
Note from the Principal-Cathy Jacobs
Our Fall Fundraiser, Step It Up for Kids, is off to a great start. This was a very successful fundraiser last year that ended with a Day of Awesomeness for ALL students. Our Day of Awesomeness is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24th. Parents/Guardians may attend during your child's scheduled time as a volunteer. Students will go out to our Day of Awesomeness during their large group time. We will send out a sign up to volunteer next week.
Your support in fundraisers allows our students to attend field trips, have access to more books/instructional materials, helps fund materials for Genius Hour and add additional technology tools to our classrooms!
Thank you to our Kinder, 2nd and 4th-grade families for coming out to Open House on Tuesday. This coming Tuesday we are excited to host our PreK, 1st, 3rd and 5th-grade families!
Did your children see this week's Principal Read Aloud posted on our social media sites?

Bite Size Behavior Tips from our Behavior Interventionist, Tracy Klare
Here at Matzke...we show our PRIDE!
Did you know that Matzke has a school motto? Students, Pre K-5th grade, practice all week long having PRIDE in every area in the building. PRIDE stands for Positive, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Example for Others. Each and every week, teachers and students, talk about what PRIDE looks like/sounds like in the classroom, the hallway, at recess, at lunch, the restroom, the cafeteria, on the bus, and during arrival and dismissal. Our common language helps our students, and the adults here at Matzke, understand that the expectations are the same in every grade level, every year, and in every area of the building. For showing PRIDE, students can earn PRIDE Passes. With those PRIDE Passes, students can buy special items and/or privileges from their teacher's menu, the school menu, or the school store. Ask your child this week about showing PRIDE at school. Ask them how many PRIDE passes they have earned. Help your child show PRIDE in everything they do and everywhere that they go.

Joke of the Week:
Why couldn’t the bicycle stand up by itself? It was two tired!
Math Tip: Ask your child to choose a number and count on adding 10 more. Try count back by 10 as well.
Reading/ Writing Tip: Take turns reading a few pages from a book with your child. Having an adult model helps improve a child's fluency.
