In-Person to Virtual Instruction
Please note, if you are making a last minute request for your child to attend school virtually you must log this into the Parent Portal by 8:00 a.m. to ensure that all teachers can be informed of your child becoming a virtual learner.
Please know that the virtual experience for your child will be much different than the experience for our in-person learners and full-virtual learners. Children can view the live lessons from the classroom, but some materials will not be available.
If your child will be home sick for an extended period of time, the necessary materials can be organized and picked up by you, if needed, at the end of the second day they are out of the building. *
It has come to our attention that parents are requesting for their children to learn virtually to take vacations or extend their weekends. While taking a vacation that is not within the school calendar is discouraged, your child is welcome to tune into their lessons via Google Meets and complete their work in Google Classroom. Due to the complexities of lesson planning, materials for trips can not be given out ahead of time. *

Homework (including virtual work)
When homework is assigned parents can help their children by arranging a quiet, comfortable place to work, and by seeing that assignments and reading is completed.
If your child is absent for two consecutive days, homework may be requested through the Parent Portal when you input the reason your child is absent. Homework will be ready for pick up after school from 3:30 to 4:00pm and placed in the homework bin outside the front door.
Taking a vacation that is not within the school calendar is discouraged. Classroom assignments and homework will not be given out ahead of time. Students are expected to complete the work missed during their absence.
Attendance in the Event of an Emergency
Accurate attendance is important for us to know which students are in the building, which students are signing in virtually, and which students are ill. This information is essential in the event of an emergency.
When your child is staying home, you must mark them absent in the Parent Portal and state the reason for the absence by 8:00 a.m. Your reasons should indicate any symptoms, temperature, virtual learning for the day, etc. We will then go into the system and update the attendance to reflect that they are learning virtually if you choose to have them log into classes.
Please know that as more students return to in-person instruction, not all of our teachers are live streaming every day. Therefore it is essential that you include the word virtual in the comment section to ensure that the teachers set up their equipment.
Please know that your child will have to attend and be on time for 4 out of the 6 classes (one being in the afternoon (2:15 ish) to be considered present for the day. They are also required to have their microphone on so the teachers can communicate with them during instruction. We would like for their camera to be on too but this is not required.
Also, know that is it still okay to be absent and take a sick day even when virtual learning is an option.
Steps to Follow When You Choose Virtual Learning
- Have your child check their daily schedule. This can be found in the Homeroom Google Classroom or it is taped into their planner/agenda.
- Check the letter day.
- Follow the daily schedule by visiting the Google Classroom of the scheduled class.
- Use the Meeting Link on the Google Classroom Homepage to join the class unless there is specific information from your child's teachers about using a Meeting Code to join classes
- Be patient. Although we follow a schedule, there are many things that get in our way of being on time.

REPORTING ABSENCES AND VIRTUAL LEARNING
Please use the Parent Portal to record your child's absences or to report that your child will be learning virtually for the day. This will allow us to mark the day according to their individual needs. If they choose not to connect with their teacher virtually, we will change their attendance at the close of the day. Please do not leave any messages on the absentee line. This line is not monitored on a daily basis.
