The EPA has extended the registrations for three RUP dicamba products (XtendiMax®, Engenia®, FeXapan™) until December 20, 2020. You must hold a valid applicator's license and receive annual, state–authorized, dicamba–or auxin–specific training to use these products. UNL's online dicamba–specific training is one option and is available after Jan. 1, 2019. Almost 1400 applicators choose that option last year. Go to: https://pested.unl.edu/dicamba

Tower Garden @ Beatrice Middle School
Tower Garden, a vertical, aeroponic growing system, allows you to grow up to 20 vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers in less than 3 square feet, indoors or out, without soil. And there’s no getting dirty or dealing with weeds! Because of its vertical, compact design, Tower Garden requires as little as 10% of the land and water traditional growing methods use. It’s perfect for sunny small spaces – and good for the environment. A Farm Credit Services of America grant was awarded to partners Gage County 4-H, Christina Lyons, and 4-H member Chet McGrury in February for the purchase of a Tower Garden. The tower garden will be assembled early March and placed in the Beatrice Middle School. Excitement is building as this offers the opportunity to grow herbs, lettuce and fresh greens with the option for the school lunchroom salad bar, sales of fresh greens, and incorporation into the Family and Consumer Science curriculum. Thank you to Farm Credit Services of America for awarding this grant.
Makership Camp - Beatrice Public Library
Beatrice Public Library – Tentative Dates: July 1-3; July 8-12
Marketplace – July 13
The Makership camp is a pilot program through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in collaboration with the Nebraska Library Commission Innovation Studios. This new program, designed for youth in grades 5-8 explores the intersection of direct entrepreneurship instruction and the makerspace culture as a way to build human-centered, youth driven businesses. Makership Camp’s three major goals are: 1) build youth skills to properly and safely create with the makerspace equipment including 3-D printer, vinyl cutter, laser cutter, and heat press 2) increase participant creative confidence through design thinking experiences creating products utilizing skills learned in the makerspace that are useful to their target audience 3) introduce youth to entrepreneurship skills and processes through the marketing of products. Youth are encouraged to use their computer/web based skills to create tangible, real-world items using the engineer design process of prototyping, testing, and improving in virtual reality and actual reality.
Nebraska Extension in Gage County is hosting a Makership Camp at the Beatrice Public Library’s Makerspace in July. We are currently putting together a group of individuals to serve on the program’s steering team and seeking program funding support. We aim to provide this awesome opportunity to the youth in Gage County at a low cost to the participants. If interested in serving on the steering team, or sponsoring the program, please contact Jacie Milius, jacie.milius@unl.edu.

Are You Living Heart Smart?
You’ve showered your family, friends and coworkers with love in the form of greeting cards, flowers, treats or maybe some much-needed quality time spent together.
Now is the time to show yourself a little love in honor of American Heart Month. Cardiovascular disease refers to a number of conditions, all of which involve compromised blood flow, putting a person at risk of stroke, heart attack and heart failure. That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news. More often than not, these conditions can be prevented by becoming informed and using that information to make healthy lifestyle decisions—living heart smart.
