Principal's Corner
February has arrived. Wow, this school year seems to be passing by very quickly. Please remind your child to dress appropriately for recess each and every day. We go outside for recess unless the temperature is below zero. Students need warm coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves to ensure they stay warm and dry while they play in the snow. If you need assistance with any of these items, please let the office know and we'll get you the items you need.
Things will look a little differently come February 15. All students will attend school every day. Students will continue to enter the building at 8:40am and dismissal is at 3:45pm. We will continue to keep classrooms separated. Students will eat with their classmates in the cafeteria and the playground will continue to be divided into sections for students to play with their classmates only. This will allow for contact tracing if one of our students happens to test positive for COVID-19. Students and staff will wear masks at all times except while they eat. Students will be able to remove their masks during recess. Sanitizer stations are located throughout the building and students will be reminded to wash their hands regularly. Please remind your child of the importance of following these guidelines so we can stay healthy at Steeby Elementary.
We look forward to having everyone together every day!
Yours in Education,
Christina Johnson
Steeby Elementary Principal

Physical Education Matters
We are starting another year of Kids Heart Challenge in February! The students are starting to come home with envelopes and instructions for signing up online. Just by registering, students can earn a wristband and play games and learn a lot of cool stuff on the website! The more money they raise, the more people they help and they get awesome prizes too! US Games also sponsors Kids Heart Challenge every year and donates money for new PE equipment based on how much we raise as a school. Whichever teachers have the most students register also earn an Amazon gift card, so you can help your teachers as well!
In Physical Education we finished our hockey/soccer units and are onto some fun games. Ask your child about Steal the Bacon, you could even play it with them!
Our athletes of the week the past few weeks have been Maximus Ergang, Lindy Shine, and Macy Peckham.

A Note About Music
Happy New Year from the music room! This past month we have been learning and having lots of fun in music. We have been moving to different dances like Sasha and the Snow Day Dance. We have been reviewing our solfege pitches and learning how they look on a music staff. The students have been enjoying playing instruments like xylophones, boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, drums and egg shakers. We have been learning about different songs through literature and music like "We Shall Overcome" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing". We are looking forward to the next month in music!
