Champion a Lifetime of Education and Excellence!
FROM THE PRINCIPAL, Mr. Ken Mohney
Greetings Tiger Nation!
I am very excited to join the Lawrence Public Schools team as your Elementary Principal! This school-community has already been so welcoming and it has been so much fun to meet many of your awesome students this week!
Here is a little information about me:
I retired from the U.S. Army/Michigan National Guard after twenty years of service as a helicopter crew chief and I am a veteran of the Gulf War. My education experience of nearly thirty years includes Math/Business Teacher, HS/MS Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, and most recently, Middle School Principal. I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from Western Michigan University and an Education Specialist degree in Leadership from Oakland University.
Except when serving overseas for military active duty, I have lived in Southwest Michigan my entire life. My wife, Gretchen, is the Director of Medical/Performance Services for U.S. Figure Skating ...Go Team USA! We have three children...twin boys graduated from college, and a daughter finishing up at Michigan State University where she is currently an R.O.T.C. candidate.
When not at school, I am usually on the water or in the woods. I enjoy the sport of Adventure Racing as well as hammock camping, kayaking, mountain biking, skydiving, rock climbing and SCUBA diving!
My primary goal as principal is to ensure that students, parents and educators work as a TEAM in order to accomplish our school mission of "Empowering, inspiring and challenging students to champion a lifetime of education and excellence."
Thank you and I look forward to serving LPS...Go Tigers!
