Principal's Message
What a busy week at GHS! We had volleyball, cross country, swimming, Area marching band, debate, fishing and golf tournaments, and finally the "Battle of the Red Rail". Wednesday evening we had our first ever STEMposium, where are students designed a solution for water contamination. All combined, this shows the incredible commitment and involvement of our students. We won some and lost some, but at each event, we competed and improved. Thank you to everyone for their support of the Mustang Nation.

The LONE STAR STATE SCHOOL COUNSELOR ASSOCIATION (LSSSCA) State Award is a recognition for school counseling programs that support the American School Counseling Association (ASCA). The goal of this award is to foster excellence in school counseling in the state of Texas and to prepare school counselors to achieve the national Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) award.
The LSSSCA State Award is based on ASCA’s four components, which include Foundation, Program Management, Delivery, and Accountability. Supporting these components are the ASCA Themes that serve to support the role of the school counselor. These themes include Leadership, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Systemic Change. Social Emotional Learning is also a vital part of the Lone Star Award System and has been included as a valuable measurement of success for students.

Counselors' Corner
Important Message for Seniors: Please make sure that you are requesting your transcripts for universities, scholarships, and CommonApp through Parchment. Your CommonApp process will stall if you have not requested your transcript through Parchment. Also, remember those using ApplyTexas will need to request a transcript to each individual college you listed in your ApplyTexas application. If you are having difficulty requesting transcripts, come by and see your counselor ASAP. Early application deadlines are typically November 1st and December 1st, check on the college website to ensure you are aware of the date!
Seniors Requesting Counselor Recommendations: If students have submitted requests for counselor recommendations to accompany their college application, counselors will have those uploaded into systems such as CommonApp and SendEdu by the admission deadline window indicated. If you are requesting a recommendation letter (required as part of the application) to be mailed to an institution, please provide your counselor with an addressed envelope with postage. Also, please come to the counseling office to pick up a green “About Me” form to help your counselor assist you with these letters.
ASVAB: Due to significant student interest and limited space, registration for the ASVAB is now closed. If your child was unable to register for this date, Colleyville Heritage High School will offer an opportunity to take this exam in the Spring of 2018. For those students registered, the exam will take place at 8:40 a.m., November 7, in the Library (Lecture Hall).
College & Financial Aid Night: Thank you to all GHS parents, students, and staff who helped contribute to this year’s successful event at Colleyville Heritage High School. Over 120 universities and members of the Armed Forces met with the community to discuss post-secondary options!
Tips for helping your child with organization (Compliments of GHS Teachers):
Check their school email daily for notices, reminders, etc.
Have a physical folder with all notes and handouts for each class.
Use a planner to write down assignments, tests, and projects.
Use online textbook resources.
Check folder and planner at home to see what is due.
Check Google Classroom for assignments when absent and the night before they have a class.
Organize backpacks nightly for the next day.
Bring computer, notebook/folder to class.
Update planner when starting a new unit.
Sign up for “My Remind Texts.”
Join parent view of Google Classroom.
Ask your student about specific learning of assignments in planner and folders.
Attention Class of 2018: Your GHS counselors would like to recognize you for your accomplishment of being accepted into a college or university. Please give a copy of your acceptance letter(s) throughout the school year to your counselor to help ensure that you are recognized as well!
Did you know? The counseling office provides weekend food on Friday afternoons for students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Send your student to the counseling office to pick up a bag.

It occurs at the beginning of the school day. Student costumes must be in dress code with the exception of hats and hair color. Masks, face paint and look alike weapons are prohibited. Students will report to their first period class, where we will conduct a dress code check. Once the dress code check is complete, students will be released to the SAC for the festivities.
