Week of January 16 ~ Academy of St. Benedict the African

Week of January 16, 2023

Dear Families,

The video above has highlights of this week's bulletin.

Today we celebrate the birthday and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His impact on our world is wide, meaningful, and deserves celebration. He spoke so many wise words, but the quote that resonates most deeply for me is, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'"

Registration for the 2023-2024 school year begins tomorrow, Tuesday, January 17th. I'll open the form to take responses first thing in the morning. Once the $25/reg fee per child is paid, you will receive the $25 gift certificate to our spirit store per child! This offer runs through 2/10. There are class incentives, and I've added them below. For our current 7th graders, there is a special incentive. When their whole class is registered, we will order their Class of 2024 hoodies! Register early and ensure a seat! Also, if you refer a new family, you will receive a $300 tuition credit (credited $150 in Dec and May). We will fill up!

Wednesday, our 8th graders, Kindergarteners, and PK4 students will have graduation pictures taken. All children in those grades will be photographed in both their dress clothes and a cap and gown.

This Wednesday, at 6:30 pm, the Empower Illinois Tax Credit application for the 23-24 school year opens. On this application, information can be entered before 7 pm. At 7 PM sharp, hit enter, confirm, and hit enter again - go fast! The next step doesn't require speed - just accuracy! This is for children entering K-8 in the 23-24 school year. If you have a child entering a private/Catholic high school, you should apply for them, too. Always put the oldest child first.

This Friday is a spirit day. Students may wear a St. Benedict shirt or hoodie with jeans or joggers. This is not a dress-down day.

Many of our students are wearing nail polish/acrylic nails, bracelets, and jewelry. This is NOT part of our uniform dress code. Parents, we need your help. Being at St. Benedict requires adherence to our uniform dress code. See the handbook for further clarification.

January 27th -- January 31st is our Double Good Popcorn Fundraiser. All proceeds will go to our playground fund! Please set up your family's store on our school store using code AGIBLD. See the flyer below!

We still need masks. The rate of COVID, FLU, and RSV infections remains high. Masking is a good preventative measure, especially for those who are not vaccinated for COVID and/or FLU.

Five hundred children's disposable face masks (no cloth) will earn 2 PAWS and 1000 masks for 4 PAWS.

The masks can be sent as a gift if you order from Amazon. Please add your name to the gift receipt for proper credit.

Here are some options!

Tuition Payments & Action for Children

Each family has an account in FACTS to monitor their tuition account. Payments for most are due on the 17th of the month. A few of our families have different due dates to accommodate pay periods. As a reminder, late fees are automatically assessed on the 4th day after the due date.

It's essential that payments are made as scheduled so that the school can meet its obligations.

Please contact me if you have concerns.
