Inter School Cross Country Competition
There were lots of races and participants, as years 3 to 6 all had an event for boys and girls, with five from each school in every race. That's a lot of children enjoying running and competing!
It was back at the start of the summer term when we introduced the Daily Mile into school, and we are excited to see that this initiative really seems to have helped our children's fitness levels.
Our thanks also to Miss Stocks and Mr Biggs for leading PE here, and to the teaching assistants and parent helpers who took the children along to the competition.
sharing the harvest
Our Harvest Festival on Wednesday in the Cathedral truly was a time of thanksgiving and sharing. Mr Richardson's Year 4 class led our service with lovely clear voices, and we were delighted to see so many parents, carers and younger siblings come along to share the time with us.
Thank you also for all the donations of food and money, which will be donated to the Salvation Army so that others in Ripon can share in the gifts of thanksgiving.
A different sort of day out
Ripon's First Poetry Festival
Busy Times at Oscar's
Opening Oscar's on the Parent Teacher Appointment Training Day has proved a huge success. The children have been busy all day, doing everything from going on a nature walk to bread and bun making, butter churning, doing the Daily Mile, painting camouflaged crocodiles -- and just playing with friends outside and in.
Oscar's also continues to get busier on school days and we hope the fun our children have had on Friday the thirteenth will encourage everyone to want to come to school even in the holidays!
Oscar's has a super spooky theme for the October break, and we think the children will love the activities on offer - they can even come dressed as a superhero. It will be a fun 'day out' even if you don't need the childcare - perhaps you can enjoy a day out of your own whilst the children are being entertained! You can book online in the same way as for breakfast and after school club, the cost being £20 for a full day (9am to 5pm) or £15 for half a day (either 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm).
Information about Oscar's is on our website, click here for an easy link. We have also sent home an information letter and flyers, see below. And if you want to access 'magic booking' so that you can book all your places online, here's another simple click - just use your email address as the username and the forgotten password button if you need to set up a password. Any problems, please contact Mrs Rich.

Hair cut raises hundreds of pounds for charity
Katie's mum has written to us with some amazing news; we're all very proud of Katie:
'Katie has always been known for her long hair. Therefore, I'm immensely proud that she has decided to have it cut to raise money for Our Angels Charity & Support Group, a charity set up to support bereaved parents and families through baby loss. They are based in Harrogate, and as a midwife there, I'm well aware of the contribution they make to our bereavement facilities in maternity. So far she has raised £375, with a lot more pledged.
Not only is she raising money, but she is donating her hair (at least 60cm) to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that creates wigs free of charge for children with cancer.'
If you would like details of how to donate to Katie's Just Giving page, please contact school.
Prize Winning Story Telling
Blue Peter Badge holder Hannah Salden earnt herself another badge, this time the silver one.
"To get this silver Blue Peter badge I wrote a story with illustrations called 'Shelley and Me'. Shelley is a tortoise, she belongs to the Blue Peter presenters and often appears on the show. In my story I look after Shelley for a day and it's all about the fun we had together."

Who's Who...
So everyone knows who the Friends' committee members are - here are the photos and names of all those parents currently elected.
Every parent carer, grandparent, and member of the school community is part of the Friends of the school and you can come to any of the meetings, help at any event and find out more about what we are doing this year at any time. Please do come and say hello to us and let us know if you want to help in any way!
Date of Next meeting
Tuesday 17th October at 3.15pm at School - please do stay after pick up and join us for a short Friends get together - there'll be tea/coffee and biscuits to enjoy whilst we discuss what is happening over the next few weeks and arrange some lovely volunteers to help with events. All parents and carers are welcome to attend!
Design a Christmas Card Deadline
You should have received a template in your child's school bag last week to do a Christmas card design - the deadline to return these is Wednesday 18th October - this is so we can collect all designs and send to the company by the 23rd October to guarantee delivery in time for Christmas. If you missed getting one or would like another please ask the school office for a spare.
School Disco - Volunteers required on Friday 10th November
We need volunteers to help run our Disco event on the day. Can you help set up before the start of the infant disco, or stay to clear up at the end?
Please tell one of the committee members (see above) if you can help out on the night - we will need people to help with refreshments, glitter tattoos, door entry and general helpers at both the infant and junior disco . All help is gratefully received, even if you can just spare 30 minutes of your time we will be very thankful!
Jumble Sale Helpers
Don't forget to save any good quality bric-a-brac, second hand clothes and DVDs for our jumble Sale after half term, if you think you can help to sort items before the sale or help on a stall on the day please let us know!
