The Mier Expedition
The Mier Expedition was in November 1842, the most disastrous of all of the border confrontations between Texas and Mexico during the days of the Repubic. They had two colored beans. There was a white one and a black one. People were forced to pick a bean. Black meant death and white meant go to jail.
The Thirteenth Amendment
The 13th Amendment was in 1842. One of the greatest effects of the war was the freeing of millions of enslaved people. The Emancipation Proclamation applied primarily to slaves in the confederacy, however. Many African Americans in the border states were still enslaved. President Lincoln had approved of a constitutional amendment to end slavery entirely, but it failed to pass Congress. In January 1865 Lincoln urged Congress to try again to end slavery. This time it worked.
Constitution of 1876
The constitution of 1876 is the sixth constitution by which Texas has been governed since independence from Mexico was achieved in 1836. Early in 1874 a joint legislature committee reported an entire new constitution of 1869. Because the document had not been prepared by a convention and because of the possibility that its adoption might antagonize the federal government, the legislature rejected the proposal.
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was February 2, 1848. In September 1847 the Mexican government surrendered to the United States and entered into negotiations to end the war. The Treaty said that there shall be firm and universal peace between the United States of America and the Mexican Republic and between their respective countries, territories, cities, towns, and people. without exception of places or persons. Orders shall be transmitted to the commanders of their land and naval forces.
Election Of Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States over a deeply divided democratic party, becoming the first Republican to win the presidency. Lincoln, a Kentucky-born lawyer and former whig representative to Congress , first gained national statune during his campaign against Stephen Douglas of illinois for a U.S senate seal in 1858
Texas Annexation
The Texas Annexation was the 1845 incorporation into the United States of America of the Republic of Texas, which was admitted to the Union as the 28th state. Some people wanted to be annexed and some people didnt.
manifest Destiny
manifest destiny is A term for the' attitude prevalent during the 19th century period Of American expansion that the United States not only could but was destined to, stretch from coast to coast. This attitude helped fuel western settlement Native American removal and war with Mexico.
Battle of Palimito Ranch
It was the final Battle of the American civil war. It was fought on the banks of the Rio grande, east of Brownsville Texas, and A few miles from the seaport of los Brazos de Santiago on May 12- 13, 1865. The battle is claimed as a confederate victory.
