Growth Mindset
Using math challenges to build brain strength and capacity
Why is it important to have a Growth Mindset?
Isn't that what an "ideal" math classroom looks like - a room filled with excited learners, who learn from their mistakes and continue to persevere in their learning? What holds us back from having classes like this? Is it the idea of change? The possibility that students may find solutions and understanding that we don't "get"? Maybe we're fearful that the lesson may not work as we had envisioned...
As educators, we should not only encourage our students to adopt growth mindsets, but we should be practicing what we preach. We need to welcome difficult problems within our classrooms and be willing to allow time to explore a variety of solutions and strategies towards solving for those solutions.
This workshop will:
- Present research on the importance of growth mindset.
- Engage participants in challenging math problems that do not require high-level math knowledge but problem-solving skills and a growth mindset.
- Provide participants with activities to promote growth mindsets in students.
