Hard Drive / SSD

A hard drive is the main storage unit on the computer. It can take in information then, display it back out when you need it. An SSD is a smaller version of a hard drive. The main difference is though, is that it has no moving parts whereas a hard drive does. The SSD is found in iphones.

Optical Drive

An optical drive is where you put you CD’s, DVD’s and blu-ray into the computer to play.

Monitor

A monitor is the screen which displays your things. The screen is very thin whereas they used to be as deep as the computer.

CPU

The CPU is the ‘brain’ of the computer. It carries the information through the ‘instructions’ of a computer program. On smaller devices such as an iphone the CPU is stored in a chip called a microprocessor.

RAM

RAM stands for random acess memory. RAM is another form of data storage in a computer. RAM is known as 'random access,' because you can access it at any time as long as you know where the work is.

Motherboards

Motherboards are the main part of the computer, where many things are attached to such as RAM, the CPU and a fan. The motherboards will be found in every modern day computer.

Input/Output

The Inputs and Outputs are like the communication system between the computer and the human being that is using the computer. Examples of input units are things such as the mouse and the keyboard and output units are things such as the printer and the monitor. Touch screens are also Input and Output devices.
