Fun in First Grade
Learning with Mrs. Ackenbom's Littles
Math in 2016!
Manipulatives and teamwork make math a blast!
Literacy in 2016!
Parent Volunteers make reading fun in Room 2!
Collaboration is the name of the game in the new year. We will focus on learning and teaching by interacting with other students and animals. We will begin a Reader's Theatre unit in which students, no matter where they are in their learning journey, will practice and present plays to fellow peers. We will also continue book buddies with Mrs. Albertson's fourth grade class. What a fun way to accomplish our goals in 2016!
Book Buddies
Lucy the reading dog 2016
Mrs. Ackenbom's Littles will continue our very special program that improves children's reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to an animal. In the new year, Lucy and her owner Ellen will continue to visit our classroom once a week to help our firsties be life-long readers who love books. If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please don't hesitate to contact me! Lucy and Ellen are even happy to meet with parents who want to be more familiar with them. Every time kids work through a difficult sentence by chunking and sounding out words, they get to have Lucy do a fun trick for them. That's what I call teamwork!
Mokie Mondays
We will continue our Mokie Mondays and learning about the world around us with our Design '15 connection with Camp Friendship. Mrs. Ackenbom's Littles certainly love Mokie and her best friend Buddy! We will have our next Mokie Monday on January 25th. We will have hands-on-learning focusing on the tack needed to ride Mokie and other horses by cleaning saddles and bridles, investigating different bits, and watching a pony being "tacked up."
