Keller Connections
Family Update - January 28
Principal's Note
Dear Keller Families,
This past Friday, Keller partnered with the FHS Math National Honor Society, Ms. Hafele, Mathematics Department Head and Mr. Dutch, Mathematics Teacher to facilitate math centers in K-5 classrooms. We were so excited to welcome over a hundred Franklin High School students into our classrooms. It was also wonderful for staff members to reconnect with so many former students!
FHS students developed and facilitated hands-on centers, aligned with grade level Geometry standards as identified in the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework.
Kindergarten
MA.K.G.A. Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres).
Grade 1
MA.1.G.A. Reason with shapes and their attributes.
MA.1.G.A.1 Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes that possess defining attributes.
MA.1.G.A.2.Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles).
Grade 2
MA.2.G.A. Reason with shapes and their attributes.
MA.2.G.A.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
MA.2.OA.B. Fluency: Add and subtract within 20.
Grade 3
MA.3.G.A. Reason with shapes and their attributes.MA.3.G.A.1. Understand that shapes in different categories may share attributes and that the shared attributes can define a larger category. Compare and classify shapes by their sides and angles. Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, squares, and trapezoids as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Grade 4
MA.4.G.A. Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.
MA.4.G.A.2. Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.
MA.4.G.A.3. Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
Grade 5
MA.5.G.B. Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties
MA. 5.G.B.3. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category.
MA.5.G.B.4. Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
Be sure to check out some of the photographs from our math morning!
Wishing everyone a great week!
Warm Regards,

Health Office - Cold Weather Update!
Winter weather is here!
This is a friendly reminder that students need to come to school properly dressed for the weather.
As the weather gets colder, students need to have the following items: winter hat, mittens/gloves, scarf/neck warmer, winter boots, snow pants and a proper winter jacket.Despite the cold weather, we will be going outside at recess for 20 minutes, unless the guidance states it is too cold.
Please remember to:
* LABEL EVERYTHING!
* Send in an extra pair of pants and socks in your child’s backpack.
Lunch Volunteers!
Thank you to our lunch volunteers for giving your time and assisting in the cafeteria!
If you are interested and would like to volunteer in the lunch room please click the February Link which will bring you to the Sign-Up Genius.
Lunch volunteers help students with opening food packaging/drinks, wiping tables between grade-level lunches, and sweeping floors if needed.
Please remember that a CORI Form must be completed before volunteering.
Thank you to Mrs. Doenges for assisting with the creation of sign-ups!
CORI Forms
Many have stopped by the office to complete their CORI form paperwork - thank you!
CORI forms need to be completed annually and prior to volunteering in the building or chaperoning a field trip. If you are chaperoning an upcoming field trip, please be sure to stop by the Keller Office to complete a form.
Completing a CORI form can be done at any time. Just bring this completed form to the Keller Office, or fill one out when you arrive. Also, please have with you one form of photo identification.
Lunch Menu
The elementary lunch menus are linked here. Students do not need to pre-order lunches but should be aware if they are getting breakfast and/or lunch at school, or if they are bringing lunch from home.
Students should come to school with a snack and water bottle.
Weekend Backpack Program
Franklin Public Schools has partnered with the Franklin Food Pantry to provide food to students who might benefit from this support. Together, we will gather, package, and provide bags of food for students during the school year to take home over the weekend. Students who participate in this program are kept confidential to appropriate school personnel. Names are not shared with food pantry personnel. Packaged food is sent home on Fridays throughout the year. This is a free program for all participating families. The backpacks will contain a variety of child-friendly foods. Some examples are snacks, canned fruits, and macaroni and cheese. Backpacks will be distributed to students in a discreet and caring manner.
If you are interested in receiving the Backpack or have questions about the program, please call the Keller Health Office, at (508) 553 -0322, Ext. 3609 or 3421. You may also print and sign this letter and return it to the School Nurse.
