God bless our communicants!
Last weekend, Holy Family Parish welcomed 6 children as they were baptized into our church, plus an additional 46 children received their First Holy Communion! In recent weeks, they also received First Penance.
As a parish, we are most grateful for celebrations like these! Thank you to parents and families for their spiritual support in guiding and teaching your children in receiving the sacraments. After two years of preparation, Holy Family Parish is most proud of our children who were baptized and received First Communion last weekend!
mass readings for sunday, may 29: Seventh Sunday of Easter-Ascension
In this weekend's Gospel of the Ascension, Jesus presents the mission he gives to his disciples to "go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole of creation." Throughout their time with Jesus, the disciples learned new ways to love God, Jesus and each other. Jesus tells them that as He is ready to take "the seat of the right hand of God" in heaven, it is now their time to go out into the world to spread this Good News.
This mission that Jesus gave to his disciples must have sounded impossible to them, beyond their comprehension! "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole of creation." They, a group with so many limitations, are now entrusted with the mission of Jesus himself. Perhaps even more astounding is the fact that they did carry out this mission, and we, together with so many others, are the beneficiaries of their faith and trust in Jesus.
Jesus promised to return one day, and assured us that He would send comfort and hope. Meanwhile, our earthly job is to share the love of God with one another.

Prayers, Hope, Change
This week's devastating events brings not only sadness to the hearts of each us, but emotions as parents, teachers, members of our community, and a nation that connects us to this terrible tragedy. Tuesday was a difficult day for myself, both as a mother to two school-age children and a teacher in an elementary school. School shootings are just unfathomable.
Some say prayers are not enough. But so much prayer and hope is needed to bring essential changes to our society so this can not happen again:
- PRAY for Robb Elementary School's 19 little angels, who had dreams and plans to grow up, but whose lives were taken too early.
- PRAY for Robb Elementary School's dedicated and loving teachers who died, in protection of their students. They are both truly heroes.
- PRAY for the families of the 19 children and 2 teachers who have lost literally everything within minutes, because of this shooter.
- PRAY for the teachers, administration and staff of Uvalde that need to recover, reflect, and, hopefully, return back to the classroom to teach future young children.
- PRAY for the school children of Uvalde School, that they see light and hope in this world, despite this unimaginative event.
- PRAY for the police officers in Uvalde who with their training and selflessness, saved the lives of hundreds of children and staff at Robb Elementary School that day.
- PRAY for the community of Uvalde, who will forever remember these innocent children and teachers, but try to recover and reunite together.
- PRAY for families. Parents and families are a child's first teacher of faith, respect and love. Parents are the primary line of support for our children. When those supports are not strong, we pray that resources are available for the safety and development of our children.
- PRAY for the school teachers, support staff, school guidance counselors and psychologists to have the strength and resources to identify students that are emotionally at risk, and provide the support necessary before another tragedy happens.
- PRAY for school administrators and leaders that initiate and ensure the safety of each member of the school community, no matter what it takes.
- PRAY for political leaders. Difficult choices need to be made in collaboration and focus on what is best for our children and generations to come.
- PRAY for us, our faith, and our community. May God help us to continue to teach our families and our community Jesus' ways of love, respect, and family.
As Catholics, we know that prayer brings reflection and hope. Through prayer, we ask God to give us the strength to make these necessary changes in our world.
This Memorial Day weekend, we remember, reflect, and pray for the victims of Tuesday's tragedy, as well as our fallen military heroes. Below is a video of the singing of our National Anthem from the 2018 Super Bowl. This song is a yearly event which unites us and brings America to its feet to remember and honor our heroes. In listening to this song today, I hope it brings us reflection and hope to our country and our lives.
