WIPE IT CLEAN...
& BOOKTOBER!!!! ~ October 7, 2014
It happens to all of us...even your leaders!
Dear 1st Impressions Team,
- Are you feeling good about stepping forward and booking your October?
- Are you feeling down and out because your summer was slow and you have no leads?
- Did you have higher expectations for some shows and now you're feeling low because the sales were small or few people came?
- Did you get numerous cancellations last month and now wonder if its even worth it?
Well, IT IS! It IS worth it...AND we've ALL had those feelings. You are NOT alone.
Your leaders get hundreds of NOs!
Believe it or not, its true for even those of us who:
We all get nos and LOTS of them. Do we just ignore it? No. We dislike it as much as you do but we're in sales. That's what happens sometimes. Do we like picking up the phone and making calls? I feel confident in saying most of us don't. How do we handle making those calls and getting Nos? A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E
Sure we could all get down when we get nos. AND WE DO! What keeps us going is letting the nos roll off our shoulders as we move onto the next call. Each NO we get brings us closer to YES. Perseverance...TENACITY...PASSION...those are the keys to success.
- have been stylists for years
- have small or big sized teams
- are TOP Company sellers and sponsorers
- have gone on numerous Glam Getaway Incentive Trips
- are Stars, Associate Directors, Directors, Senior Directors and UP

- We don't take nos personally.
- We accept that it might not be the right time for someone so instead we may keep them on the list for the future.
- We don't give up after a few nos and just assume our businesses are in the toilet.
- We have confidence that we're providing an amazing service of personal styling and LOADS of freebies for our hostesses.
- We know that our trunk show guests and customers love our product as we have high rates of return customers and hostesses.
- So, we KEEP calling. We KEEP sharing our opportunity. And because we KEEP doing this...we reach our yeses which make it all worth it!
- Simply put: we just move on and find the next person who's ready to reap the FABULOUS REWARDS
Not all trunk shows are glorious. TRUE STORIES...
I've now been a stylist for over 5 years and have done over 250 shows. Believe me, I've seen a lot of interesting scenarios--some good and some bad.
Let me share a few special memories and why I keep going on...

Gift Bag Invite
This is not what your thinking....
Last month the date had FINALLY come for the show I had started trying to book back in June. I knew summer was slower and a different beast so I chatted up a fellow dog walker who makes jewelry. She wanted to get her line of hand-made jewels out again to try to sell them so I suggested she do that and I bring the S&D bag/scarf/wallet collection. She loves S&D so she got really excited and suggested we make it a fun Jazz Brunch with both of our lines.
Great, I thought! So then I continued to ATTEMPT to hostess coach her and get her list of email addresses. I'll take care of the invites I said. She doesn't have to do anything other than give me a list and open her home.
No list came....so we delayed b/c we thought July was slow...then we delayed until August....also slow...so then we moved it to September.
This was it! It was going to be a 2-day show in September. I still didn't get an invite list from her but since I had nothing else on my books, I still planned to go (hoping she'd put the invites out and just forgot to add me).
Earlier in the day, I saw her walking her dog. She was handing out fliers to a few people about the show. Great...something was being done but no official lounge invite went out. So I went to her house anyway. Got there and none of her jewelry was set up. I got her going. We were set AND...no one came.
Well, one person came...long story short bought the scarf from me that was backordered until Nov. Great. Then no one else.
She then decided to HANG a gift bag with the words written in Sharpie on it on the light by her front door:
JAZZ BRUNCH! Come shop for Jewelry, Bags, Scarves today and tomorrow!
THAT WAS IT...6 hours of my time and NOTHING else.
Did I mention that I've been a stylist for over 5 years and this just happened a few weeks ago?

CRAZY CAT STORY
I did a trunk show when the hostess's cat literally would not leave my table and continued to bat at my earring stand. I swear I thought it was going to poop on my trays. Plus, I'm NOT a cat person...
DOG STORY
Hostess's dog ate two of my earrings...not from the same pair so I was out two pairs. Where were my product credits when I needed them???
LOST & NO SHOWS
This might have been one of the worst: I was gearing up for Jessica Herrin to arrive the next day to do a local training. I had a show the night before in Cambridge, MA. December. Pitch black at night. No 3/4G because of low coverage in Cambridge.
I got lost...in the dark...for 30 mins. Stressing. Had to stop in a shady area where I had one bar of coverage to call the hostess and ask her to find me in her car then lead me to her house.
When we finally got to her house, I set up, we chatted and....we waited...and waited...and waited....Now, I'm getting annoyed because I have a LOT to do to get ready for Jessica's visit and I'm sitting in this small apartment with the hostess and NO friends. NO ONE.
So, OBVIOUSLY no sales. NONE!
And...that was it. Seriously no one ever came. SAD. She was mortified and I was deflated in many ways.

THE BOOT
When I first started S&D, I popped 3 ligaments in my ankle (jumping over a fence at a U2 concert but that's a story for another day) and had to wear a big orthopedic boot.
I continued to do shows with the boot. Hobbling around, meeting great women, hobbling back. Up and down brownstone stairs, in and out of cars, and in and out of homes.
One time I did a show and there was a Medium there. She told me that someone in my spiritual world is telling her that I need to slow down and stop running around like Michael Jackson in THRILLER (I know that was my grandmother :)
I traveled from Boston to Chicago with that Boot on to see Jessica and Danielle at the Chicago Bootcamp. There wasn't another event closer so I went. And it was worth it all. I educated myself on what this business is all about.
It's a JOURNEY...
and just one more story about how you just have to work with the obstacles to you have. Get around them, deal with them and keep moving forward. Do that and you WILL succeed.

LITERALLY...I could go on and on with these types of stories
So no, they're not all great outcomes but STILL I continue to forge ahead. "Onwards and upwards" I say to myself! Why wallow and give up on myself and the business I've been working to build? I respect myself and my time too much for that. I know this is an incredible company with unbelievable potential. I just need to work at it to get it--revolutionary thought huh?
Silver linings? I get to tell YOU these stories. I get to explain that if you have a bummer show, and you will over and over again, you just pull up your big girl panties and keep moving on.
If you don't, you won't have a business. If you do, you'll gain confidence, learn more about yourself, become a stronger person, and yes, you will reap the cash, product credits, prizes, and belief in yourself.
So go out there, start making those calls and most importantly MAKE IT FUN!!!!
