FISD Early Childhood School
Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
I wanted to share some information with you all and reassure you that we take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously. Here is a list of many things that are currently in place to support us in keeping your little ones safe when they are in our care:
· all students wear badges and all backpacks have badges
· parents are required to always show their car tag or license to get their child which prevents unauthorized adults from picking up your child
· campus drill days for fire, lockdown, and bad weather situations
· campus audits by both Frisco Fire Department and Frisco ISD's Security Department
· frequent visits by our campus SRO (School Resource Officer)
· school cameras in place showing school hallways, exits, and building perimeter that are monitored by our office staff
· locked classroom doors, front office doors, and all perimeter building doors
· walkie-talkies carried by staff
· front office staff trained by FISD Security Team
· emergency radio on campus
· computer screening of all visitors
· full time nurse on staff who also trains our staff in safety procedures
Here is additional information from our district on the topic of safety:
From Frisco ISD
Frisco ISD would like to express to our community that the safety of our students in their learning environments is of the upmost importance. By state law, campuses are required to practice drills for all types of circumstances on a regular basis and are required to report drills and trainings to the district and the state. We feel confident that should an incident occur, our campus staffs can handle crisis situations.
We ask our parents and students to understand that even joking about firearms on a campus leads to an immediate and swift investigation of the threat when campus and/or district leaders become aware of such conversations.
An increased police presence may be noticed around our campuses, strictly as a precaution. Many other districts around the nation are following suit.
What Frisco ISD schools do:
· Security cameras and double-door, keyless entry systems—single access points
· Access control systems screen visitors for entry
· Criminal background checks on all employees, volunteers and contractors who work on district property
· Crisis management plans and teams at each campus
· Regular safety drills and training for staff
· School resource officers on secondary campuses, with middle school officers also responsible for two to three elementary schools
· Radio communication for administrators and staff
· Full-time nurses at each campus
· ChooseToCare anonymous online tip-line
· Frisco ISD Security staff regularly conducts unannounced security audits
· Schools routinely conduct drill for a variety of scenarios with staff and students.
Information on S.A.F.E.R. Program
Situational Awareness for Emergency Response (S.A.F.E.R.) is an innovative partnership with the City of Frisco that gives police, firefighters and emergency responders live access to cameras inside and outside all Frisco ISD schools, including those in Plano, McKinney and Little Elm.
Should an emergency occur, first responders have immediate access to campus floor plans, photos, contact information and much more from inside their squad cars, fire trucks and ambulances. This knowledge would be critical in an actual emergency, giving personnel the ability to plan and prepare in real time, identify the best way to address the situation and minimize any damage.
Before the S.A.F.E.R. program, first responders relied on paper maps, lists and documents. Now they simply pull up a software program on mobile data computers.
To help coordinate prevention and response activities, the Frisco Fire Department also participates in an annual S.A.F.E.R. drill on each campus. The drill is held in addition to other school safety drills and allows first responders and school staff to work together to improve communication, ensure everyone understands the process, etc.
Thank you for all you do to support our Early Childhood School! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I Want to Hear From YOU!
Many of you have posted comments, suggestions or questions on my Parent Padlet. Thank you! It is one of the ways for me to stay connected with you and allows other parents to see your questions. You never know when someone else is wondering the same thing. The cool thing is that it is completely anonymous! So post away and I will be sure to respond.

As the end of the school year approaches, we start getting a lot of questions regarding Kindergarten registration. After Spring Break, our Data Clerk will be sending you a letter verifying your home address and email address. This will help us in ensuring that all of your child’s registration documents get sent to the correct campus. She will give instructions on what steps need to be completed. Starting sometime in May, the district will send email SnapCodes for 2018-2019 school year.
Our campus will also be hosting a Tool Time session focused on Getting Ready for Kindergarten on March 23rd at 8:30 a.m. If you would like to attend, please make sure to RSVP by March 7th. The flyer is below.
The Counselor's Corner
All of this gloomy weather has us thinking---when is Spring Break??? Whether you are planning a nice family trip to Disney or sites around DFW, here are some tips to help while traveling.
· Remember to pack medicine
· You can never pack too many wipes
· Tag them---write your phone number on the inside of your child’s jacket
· Pack a variety of snacks
· Keep hands busy with puppets, books, Legos, and digital apps
· Make frequent restroom breaks
· Prepare a schedule which includes down time
· Pack each of your kids’ outfits in storage bags before placing them in luggage---tops, bottoms, socks, and shoes –so your child can dress independently. You can label each bag with the day of the week he/she will wear it.
Planning ahead will help you enjoy more of your vacation time. There are a lot of ideas on Pinterest and you can Google anything to make your time off more comfortable and fun.
