Many thanks!

KFL & A Public Health Dental Screening

During the school year a dental hygienist and dental assistant from KFL & A Public Health will visit all elementary schools. They visit the schools for two reasons. First, they will screen children to identify dental problems that need to be seen by a dentists and to screen a few children who had dental concerns last year. The screening is a quick look in the mouth. Funding for necessary dental treatment may be provided to eligible children through the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program. In cases where treatment is needed, Public Health will keep a client record and may tell the dental office what was found.

Secondly, then dental screening helps us to monitor the oral health of children in this region. The monitoring allows KFL & A Public Health to identify the prevalence of dental disease and any new trends in dental disease. The information is used to plan programs and services that best meet the needs of children in our communities. Therefore, even if your child sees a dentist regularly, it is important that they have their teeth screened so that they are included in our monitoring of dental disease in our region.

Ontario Regulation 570 School Health Programs and Services, made under Health Protection and Promotion Act, requires dental screenings each year in all elementary schools. If you do not want your child to be screened this school year, please tell the Health Unit in writing. This letter must include your child's full name, school and grade.

Safe Arrival & Pick Up

As part of the Ontario Government's Safe Welcome program, all elementary schools have secure access where all doors are locked during the school day when students are inside the building (doors will be unlocked at recess). Parents/Guardians are still welcome to access the building through the front door. You will need to ring the buzzer (to the right) when you arrive and a staff member will assist you. If you plan to stay at the school between 8:50-3:35, please sign in and get a visitor or volunteer tag. We also ask that if you are waiting for your child, that you wait outside the office and not by the classrooms or in the hallways. If possible (we know that at times there are appointments/circumstances that can't be helped!), we ask that you wait until 3:35 to pick up your child. This will help decrease the interruptions into the classrooms as our students are learning until 3:35. We thank you for your cooperation and support with this initiative.

Our Buses

Here's a few reminders...

  • enter south/west (closest to Hwy 401), exit north/east (closest to Hwy 15) - as usual
  • additional parking spaces are by the fence - please park in open parking spaces or on the road (please never park in the bus lane - this is also our emergency vehicle route)
  • buses will enter the parking lot single file (so students will not have to go through the parking lot to to embark/disembark)
  • student drop off/pick up zone is the area just outside the office windows by the planters - for safety reasons, students and parents may NOT walk in between the buses to get to and from vehicles
  • the accessible parking is the first/closest parking space in the lot

Donate your old JPS swag!

Got t-shirts/sweatshirts that don't fit anymore? Instead of giving them away, please consider donating them back to the school! Thank you to those parents who have already donated their old JPS t-shirts! The office smells heavenly of fresh laundry! MMmmmmm.....
