A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, DR. BARBER
Happy Holidays, Parents!
December is here! Cooler temperatures… disappearing daylight. The upcoming weeks can become quite overwhelming as families prepare for family gatherings, special travels, and perhaps some shopping outings in preparation for special traditions. As much as we’d all like to feel that we are organized and well-prepared for the upcoming weeks, each family deals with the stress of the holidays in different ways. Oftentimes, children fall victim to later bedtimes, hectic trips to the store for that last item, and sometimes experience first-hand the financial stress that plagues many families during this time of the year. Routines often fall to the wayside along with daily reading practices, consistent homework support, and even family meals. At times families need to make a concerted effort to see that the rush and stresses of the holiday season do not seep into their child’s daily routine and need for consistency. Continue to help students Put 1st Things 1ST during the last few weeks of school before winter break. This is one of our 7 Habits that we practice each day.
In a time where the hope for a peaceful and tranquil holiday season is sought and the act of giving is contagious, members of our Student Lightouse Team will be sharing a new service project with students on Monday. Each grade level is being asked to contribute toiletries, new books, or school supplies to help make the holidays more enjoyable for some of our less fortunate families in the community. Thank you for helping our students learn about giving to others during this holiday time. Your donations are greatly appreciated. All donations will be provided to Winter Wishes, in partnership with Spring Valley.
Our students are still focusing strong on the 7 Habits and we continue to recognize students who are making good choices. Students receive tickets for our birdcage. Ask your child if he/she has added a ticket to the birdcage recently. We also take pride in recognizing students that consistently demonstrate the 7 habits. These students are recognized quarterly at a breakfast. Ask your child what his/her academic WIG is and what you can do to support them in achieving this Wildly Important Goal!
As always, your continued support is appreciated. Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Katie Barber, principal

PTO needs volunteers for our HOLIDAY SHOP!
The holiday season is fast approaching and Pontiac PTO is proud to be sponsoring the annual holiday shop again this year. The Penguin Patch Holiday Shop will be open this year from December 9-13th.
Please see the link below for a volunteer schedule and consider donating some of your time help our Parrots students shop and wrap gifts for friends and family. This is always a fun and rewarding week for our students but it is not possible without the help from our parent volunteers!

Music Fundraiser Pick Up
Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual fall music fundraiser! We achieved our goal and will be able to provide recorders for all of our third graders and purchase stands for our instruments!
Students may pick up their fundraiser from the music room during school hours or parents may arrange with me to pick up their fundraiser Friday after school. If your student rides a school bus, they will not be able to take their bags on the bus. Someone will have to pick their fundraiser bag(s) up from the school.
Please be sure to deliver all items to those that ordered items and let Ms. Rayner know NO LATER THAN Tuesday, December 10th if any item is missing or damaged, so that she can try to have it replaced before we leave for the winter holidays.
Thank you!
Ms. Rayner
Lost and Found
We have an abundance of items in our Lost and Found area located in the bus atrium (ASAP entrance). PLEASE make sure to check Lost and Found for any missing items. We will be donating all of the items left after December 19th to our district social workers' closet.
Thank you!
