Rigid Sex Roles
Don't act regal, genders are equal!
By Jonathan Padrazo
What are rigid sex roles?
When rigid sex roles are incorporated into a relationship, the abuser sees the opposite sex as inferior . The abuser may "assert their dominance" and try to make you believe that they are better than you because of their gender. The abuser may also believe that their significant other is unable to have their own identity.
Is the abuser always male?
This, like in all relationships, is not true. It is true that most incidents do occur with men, but that certainly doesn't mean that women can't abuse this way. Sex roles are commonly associated with stereotyping, and their are plenty against both men and women.
Signs of Rigid Sex Roles
Inferiority
The abuser makes their partner feel like their gender is inferior to the abuser's.
"Master of the Castle"
The abuser feels that they are the "Masters of the Castle," and that they "rule" over the opposite gender.
Unable to Have an Identity
The abuser does not believe the partner is important enough to have an identity.
