January 18, 2016 School Board Meeting Highlights:
Sheryl Stewart, director of accountability and assessment, presented the 2016 TAPR (Texas Annual Performance Report). The report provides information on student performance, school and district staff, school and district programs, student and staff demographics. According to the report, all campuses Met Standard in 2015. All campuses and the district were rated Exemplary in local accountability measures. Eight of the 17 elementary schools and all secondary schools earned one or more Distinction designations in the state accountability program.

Board Calls For May 7 School Trustees Election
The Board of Trustees called for the School Trustee Election (Place 4 and Place 5) to be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016.
Board Approves 2016-2017 Academic Calendar
The Board of Trustees approved the proposed calendar for the 2016-17 school year. The first day of school next year will be August 22, 2016. Thanksgiving vacation will be November 21-25 and winter vacation will be December 19 - 30. Spring vacation will be March 6-10, 2017 and the last day of school in 2017 will be June 2.
Land Purchased for Elementary School #18 - The land is generally located along the west side of Chelsea Boulevard, east of Cottonwood Creek and south of State Highway 121 in Allen (north of the Star Creek community).
On December 10, 2015 President Obama signed into law ESSA – Every Student Succeeds Act
Gov Abbot swore in Mike Morath as the Commissioner of Education on January 4th.
Important Dates:
January 20th is first day to file for School Board & City Council. Last date to file is February 19th.
School Board positions with terms expiring this year are:
Place 4 – Amy Gnadt and
Place 5 – Michael Myers.
City Council positions with terms expiring this year are:
Place 4 – Robin Sedlacek and
Place 6 Baine Brooks.
April 18th Allen Council and Friends of the Allen Library will be hosting a Candidate Forum 6-6:30 Meet & Greet, 6:30-7:30 Forum.
March 1st is the date of the Primary Election. Early voting will be offered from Feb 16-Feb 26th at the Allen Municipal Courts Bld.
May 7th is the School Board and City Council Election Day
