Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
Dear Farley Families,
Special thanks this week goes to caregivers Mary Millette and Sarah Tracy for organizing our yearly Scholastic Book Fair! I can still remember going to the book fair when I was in elementary school. It was often a highlight of my year. The book fair is next week and will be open to caregivers during evening Caregiver/Teacher conferences. Students will have multiple opportunities to go with their classes to the book fair during school hours. We are very grateful to our generous Home and School who has pledged to make sure every student walks away from the fair with a new book. Click HERE to learn about "Teacher Wish Lists".
On Sunday at 8pm, please join Mary Millette on Home and School's Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/FarleyHSA) for a live stream of book fair recommendations and preview of books for sale. A few more volunteers are needed to work the book fair. Have an hour or two to spare? Click this link to sign up to help: Sign up to volunteer here!
I also want to thank Mrs. Maguire and Mrs. Strauss for organizing our upcoming "Farley Night of the Arts". Please join us on April 5th from 5:30-7pm for an evening of student performances and showcases of work. Farley students' artwork will be displayed on the upper level of the school throughout the night. The band will play from 6-6:25pm and the chorus will sing from 6:30-7pm in the cafeteria. The Farley Home and School meeting, which is also scheduled for this date, will still be happening. It will just be starting at 7:00pm in LL 27. Click the link below for the "Night of the Arts" flier in all English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Lainie Dougherty, who is organizing our Farley WooSox game, let me know today that we have sold 150 tickets to the fame so far! There are 33 left! See how to get your tickets below in the "Other Updates" section. In my efforts to practice my pitching as mentioned last week, two students helped me measure and then mark off the length of space between the pitcher's mound and the batter which is 60' and 6". Next, the two students are going to help me practice every Friday after their lunch. I am humbled (and shocked) by their belief in my athletic abilities.
I hope to see you all next week during Caregiver/Teacher Conferences! It's not too late to sign up for a conference. Just click this link to sign up:

BALL IN THE HOUSE IS BACK!
Farley's next cultural program is one that students loved last year! This March, Ball in the House, an a cappella singing group, is returning to Farley with a new show. Here is a little bit about it:
Totally Vocally
This program is jam-packed with music, entertainment, and education! Through
contemporary & classic cover songs and original works, Ball in the House (BitH) will discuss and teach many aspects of music and performance. Students will discover what “a cappella” is and how it works, explore the technology behind a sound system, hear the various voice parts and how they fit together to make harmony and songs, learn how to beatbox and use rhythm, get introduced to songwriting and collaboration, and have a chance to ask questions. The program also addresses the teamwork aspect of performing together and how BitH needs to work together as people and as voices. Through fun rapport and stories of their own experiences as students (dealing with peer pressure, etc.), BitH inspires and encourages students to get involved and stay involved in the arts.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Hudson Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Thank you so much for continuing to fund our amazing programs.

OTHER UPDATES AND REMINDERS
GET YOUR TICKETS TO FARLEY DAY AT THE WOOSOX!
The Worcester Red Sox, AKA the WooSox, have teamed up with Farley's Home and School and invited us to join them for a "Farley Day at the WooSox" to be held on Sunday, May 21st. Tickets must be purchased online using the link and on the fliers below or by using the QR Code pictured below and on the fliers. If you happen to go online and it says "sold out" please email Laine @ lainie2122@gmail.com and she will have more tickets released! Rumor has it that if we get a lot of Farley community members to come to the game, I may be able to throw out the first pitch. Needless to say, I already started to practice my curve ball and my entire family has already purchased tickets to the game.

HUDSON TO HOST HEALTH FAIR
REMEMBER REPORT CARDS ARE GOING VIRTUAL!
This trimester, elementary report cards are going digital! In order to access your child's report card, caregivers will need to have an Aspen Parent Portal account. Paper copies of report cards will only be sent home for students in the Dual Language Program or if specifically requested from your child's classroom teacher. Directions on how to get your Aspen Parent Portal account or access your account were shared in my earlier Paw Prints this year. In case you missed it, here is the information from Ellen Schuck, the district's Head of Technology:
"Caregivers must have an Aspen Parent Portal account to view electronic report cards. To access the Aspen Parent Portal Account click HERE. You can also access the portal from the main Hudson Public's School Homepage. Aspen Parent Portal accounts are automatically created using your child's first contact email account. Caregivers should have received an email from "Aspenhelp" with your account information. If an additional account is needed, please create an Incident IQ ticket using this link. If you need help with your login credentials, please fill out an Incident IQ ticket. Mrs. Schuck and her technology team will be happy to assist you.
Once in your Aspen account, report report cards will be available under the "Published Reports" section on the "Pages" top tab. Mrs. Schuck suggests downloading the report card and saving it to your computer."
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT CAR DROP-OFF and PICK-UP
Farley staff who are in charge of car drop-off and pick-up, kindly ask that caregivers refrain from using cell phones during drop-off in the mornings and pick-up in the afternoons. Staff have noticed several distracted drivers either chatting on the phone at pick-up or taking pictures/videos of their children walking into the building in the mornings. For everyone's safety, please put cell phones away during these times. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
