The Weekly Update

Season 4, Episode 32 - April 30 , 2021

Great News!

Some great things have happened at STMS in the month of April! This week, we found out that our Odyssey of the Mind team, after progressing through local and regional rounds of competition, placed second in the entire state of Pennsylvania for their problem. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition that stresses teamwork, resource management, designing and making, and divergent thinking. Thank you to Mrs. Laign for her work with our Odyssey of the mind team. In addition, our Girls Lead chapter virtually attended their conference at West Chester University to present their ideas for a leadership solution within our school community. Reading Olympics competed virtually against other schools in the region in April. Thanks to Mrs. Bloom for her support of both Girls Lead and Reading Olympics. Finally, sports have returned to the middle school, with 38% of all students participating in at least one after-school intramural sports program. Thanks to all of our coaches and to Mr. Pane for getting our kids up and moving again! I couldn't be prouder of our team members and your kids!

Parenting in Uncertain Times

Please review this flyer on a session on May 25th regarding Parenting in Uncertain Times.

Relay For Life Goes Virtual

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life has been a tradition in Springfield Township School District for years, enabling students to play a role in the fight against cancer. Although a large public event in a high school stadium is not yet an option because of the pandemic, neither is giving up on the fight against cancer. So, we invite the Springfield community to participate in Relay For Life this year—virtually. On May 22–23, when we would have gathered on a high school track, we will instead hold a “virtual 5k,” meaning that everyone is encouraged to exercise wherever or however they choose—walk, run, bike, skate, etc. In addition, virtual luminaria can be purchased as a special tribute to loved ones who have been touched by cancer. The luminaria will be displayed during an online ceremony on Saturday evening, May 22. More information is available on our website, where you can register for the “5k” with a minimum $10 donation. You will also find a link for dedicating luminaria. Check back regularly, as the website will also be updated with information about the luminaria ceremony and about our new online Relay For Life raffle.
