Carelot News- Corona Virus Update
March 18 ,2020
Update from Carelot Administration
Dear Carelot Families and Staff,
We are writing to you today to give you some updates as we remain open for Care for our families.
OEC and the Govenor both have name child care centers essential personnel during the Corona virus pandemic. They have asked that stay open, continue to provide care while following our set policies.
Here are some key points as we take it day by day:
- The Senator has sent us loan applications and is looking into other forms of support for us.
- We want and need to be here in order to help the economy continue
- We need to support key employees in our community. Our gas stations, grocery stores, hospital employees, military personnel, police, fire etc to need to be able to continue to work. As such we need to stay open and provide a safe place for their children.
- Insurance is not protecting us, as this is a pandemic
In addition, as community members we are all either being paid by our employers or by unemployment and if we want to see the above mentioned services still available we have to continue to pay our childcare employees.
Child Care employees are not government employees, unlike many teachers, we will not get paid. The school closures and group limits have left several centers empty or forced to close their doors indefinitely. It will be difficult to survive the next couple of weeks nevermind if closed longer. For those families who are still using Child Care programs, they will shut down.
We ask that you do your part and pay even when not choosing to use the services allowing those essential community members that do need the center to remain open. To keep our staff employed. We cannot operate without income and at this time, we don't have anyone else to support us to be able to be around after this is over.
We are open and available to all those that choose to bring their children, even if your site is not open one of our centers is. This means it is a choice to not have care and therefore we ask that you choose to support our community and come together to keep us open for those that will support us.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 860-739-1993.
SLUMBER CLUB HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR MARCH AND APRIL.
From the CT Office of Early Childhood
Medical Care and Information: Families and staff should continue to follow guidance from the Department of Public Health to contact their primary care physician for medical questions and assistance. Licensed providers may also consult their health consultant or local health department for questions related to implementation of guidance, or what to do if there is exposure to an infected individual. Health: The strategies employed on a regular basis, including handwashing, staying home when sick, and cleaning and sanitizing, are critical elements of a plan to remain healthy. The CDC website includes links to tip sheets, posters on handwashing, and tips for families in its Interim Guidance for Administrators of US ChildCare Programs and K-12 Schools to Plan, Prepare, and Respond to Coronavirus Disease. All CDC guidance is updated as necessary to respond to this changing situation.
Planning: The Office of Early Childhood has plans in place to maintain services to the public. The OEC’s Child Care Emergency Preparedness Manual is available at https://www.ctoec.org/licensing/emergency-planning-and-response/. This document describes how the OEC works with key partners, plans for the continuation of subsidies and services, supports recovery efforts and communicates with stakeholders. A section of the plan provides additional information on resources related to emergency preparedness planning, response and recovery. Programs should review their emergency plans as well.
