January 10-14

Big picture

For students who have 10 or more illness absences, you will need to provide a doctor note or be excused by the school nurse/health aide in order for the absence to be marked as excused. Otherwise, it will be marked as an 'unexcused' absence.

Please see the following sections in the Fairview handbook for more information.

Attendance and Absenteeism

All students are required to attend school daily according to state law. The only legal exceptions for absence from school are personal illness, medical necessity, court appearance, and funeral services for a member of the immediate family.

Attendance Improvement Program

When students have three unexcused absences or when the student's parent excused ‘illness’ absences reach 10 (ten), a notification will be sent to the parent. If this attendance pattern does not improve, students may be referred to the Attendance Improvement Program requesting their assistance.

The AIP may take any of the following actions:

a. Place the parents on a formal district attendance improvement contract.

b. Refer the matter to the District Attorney's office for adjudication.

Thank you to all the parents who helped make this Fall's Book Fair a huge success!

It exceeded the goal and I was able to select around 150 new titles to add to the shelves. In addition, our school earned enough credit to ensure that we will have a Buy 1- Get 1 sale in the Spring!

December was a busy month because there was also a free book giveaway and lots of holiday-themed art available.

For January Mr. Bear has declared that he is the King of Winter so we will be reading about winter and snow and creating some beautiful snowflakes at lunchtime. Since the weather has turned chilly, the number of kids in the library is growing and so there will be structured activities offered daily.

The Minions (library student volunteers) have been working steadily for months to earn paydays and their hard work is appreciated! They help keep the space looking organized and I love having them be proud of their library. We have started watching AntsCanada on YouTube before school and have learned so much about the ant universe. The Minions working in the library remind me of the ant's teamwork when you watch them scurry purposefully around shelving and straightening the space.

The puzzles that students are working on before school have been a great success this year. We started with just 48 piece puzzles and have mastered 100 pieces so far. The 300 piece puzzle is going out and I can't wait to see them succeed in tackling it. (I am always looking for donations of puzzles preferably 300 pieces or less)
