In Case You Missed It:
In the 8th grade math meeting we discussed the 8th grade math score according to the way the state reported their score. Our math lead teacher, Susan Davis, emailed someone with knowledge and reported the number that is on our sheet is the percentage of students that took and passed the 8th grade math test. The number that the state reported is the percentage of 8th graders that passed a math test (8th grade math and Math 1). She has shared this with our Central Office. I am hoping that we will find out why and how we can have a better comparison and gauge of where we stand.
Thank you for all that completed their PDP last week and got all the green check marks in all the right places. Please make sure I didn't receive an email from me reminding you to do something to finish the process. *REMEMBER that you must start your observation plan AND put the date of your training (done in SafeSchools - within the first 10 days). I know it's a lot of little things but you/we can't move onto the next piece if you don't do everything. If you ever are stuck and can't figure something out, please check the NCEES Check List for Staff, ask a teammate, and if you're still stuck, reach out to an admin. Eventually we will figure it out.
Roush, Jo and I have started our first round of observations. Those teachers on comprehensive and standard plans in NCEES will be seen this round (by the end of October). These require a preconference, announced observation, and post conference. Those that are on the abbreviated cycle will receive at least two walkthroughs during this time, so you are able to to receive feedback. When we do a walkthrough we will send you the form with feedback. Our focus is literacy throughout our school. We know that WICOR is the vehicle so make sure you are teaching strategies and expecting kids to do these strategies so they are able to access the grade level material.
Our ELA teachers have embraced the 15-20 min of reading and are mirroring and modeling the behaviors they want to see from our children. They all are trying different ideas for accountability and are sharing successes and trials during PLC's and at the department team meeting.
