Glen Ellyn School District 41

February 20, 2020

Message from Superintendent Dr. Kaczkowski

Thank you for all of the feedback you have provided since I have started as superintendent this school year. I know that we ask parents, staff and students to take a number of surveys as we truly want to know how we are doing. We are always looking for ways to improve the educational experience for each and every child and also form a stronger partnership with you, our parents. To help us accomplish this goal we are again conducting the School Perceptions Survey. This survey is specific to District 41 and helps us understand what we are doing well and where we need to improve.

School Perceptions is an independent educational research firm that has conducted these surveys for District 41 every other year since 2014. Having a third party conduct the survey ensures that all responses are kept confidential. We are asking that all parents respond to a survey that will be sent out to you via email on February 25.

The survey will be open from February 25 through March 16 at 5 p.m. To view the results from the survey conducted in 2018, click here.

Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to take this survey.

3. Home Language Survey

All three of these forms can be found on our website (here). Once the forms are received, parents will be contacted by the preschool coordinator.

Special GPS Presentation Held at District 41 Central Services Office - March 4

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will host the film screening premier of the new documentary "The R Word: The Power of Words and the Power of Love" with filmmaker Amanda Lukoff at presentations on Tuesday March 3 and Wednesday, March 4.

  • Tuesday, March 3, 7 p.m., at Glenbard West, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. Join us as we view this award winning documentary and hear from Lukoff, the film's director executive producer, and writer.

  • Wednesday, March 4, 9:30 a.m., at the District 41 Central Services Office, 793 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn. Amanda Lukoff will showcase her film and lead a discussion specifically targeting parents, caregivers, and teachers of children ages 3 to 8.

Lukoff grew up advocating for her sister Gabrielle, especially whenever she heard the word “retard.” In her powerful film Lukoff unravels the history and lasting effects of this ugly label through the lens of her sibling experience. The film is a purposeful look into the lasting implications of the “R word,” exposing the current attitudes and perceptions about people who live with intellectual and developmental challenges. The R-Word is an unflinching, heartwarming, humorous, and hopeful journey through our shared human experience. Words matter. Attitude matters. Every human being has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

Amanda Lukoff is the co-founder with her husband Danny of Thorough Productions in Washington DC.

These free events are open to the public.
