Bromley East Charter School
September 3, 2021
Hawk Families:
Happy Friday! We hope you and your family enjoy the long holiday weekend. School will resume on Tuesday, September 7. The first break of the 2021-22 school year is September 20-24. There will be no school for students during this time. Please note the information provided below about the upcoming break and the program BECS will be offering for students during this time.
Also, we want to reiterate the expectations of the recent public health order that we are legally bound to follow and the required masking of all individuals within the building.
Students are expected to come to school with a mask and wear it throughout the course of the day while in the building. Periodic outdoor mask breaks will be provided. Disposable masks are available if a student needs one.
Different mitigation strategies will be used for students who have a qualifying medical exemption which prevents masking (e.g., distancing within the classroom, staggered hallway transitions, etc.).
Please familiarize yourself with the district COVID dashboard, noting the exposure list for Bromley East. BECS has seen a recent uptick in positive COVID cases.
Continue to monitor your student(s) for signs of illness. Please keep them home if they are sick.
All visitors to the building must wear a mask inside. Disposable masks will be available if needed.
Refrain from engaging in disrespectful interactions with staff members. Administrators are happy to have a respectful conversation regarding your concerns.
As always, we appreciate your support and partnership.

Assessment
BECS students participate in a variety of assessments throughout the year to help teachers and students know how they are progressing with their learning. This week students began Fastbridge testing in both reading and math and our K - 3 students began their DIBELS testing. A comprehensive list of assessments done throughout the year can be found HERE. This is a live document and will be updated as more specific testing dates are selected.
Extended Absences due to Illness or self-quarantine
Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher, the office, and Nate Jacobson if your child is or will be absent 3 or more consecutive days due to an illness or self-quarantine and is healthy enough to engage in learning.
Elementary and Middle School teachers will provide learning options which may include live streaming and/or asynchronous work. In coordination with your child’s teacher, a start date will be determined within 24 hours of contact. Assignments will continue to be posted on See Saw (K-2), Google Classroom (3-5), and Infinite Campus.
This short-term option is for students who are unable to come to school in person due to illness or self-quarantine, not for short-term illnesses (less than 3 days) or vacations.
PTO Meeting and Remind App
Please join PTO's first general meeting of the 21/22 school year on Thursday 9/9 at 6:30 in the cafeteria. This is the perfect time to meet the board, fill out the volunteer packet, and learn about all the fun activities you can be a part of that the PTO will be executing this school year. PTO is BECS' parent-teacher organization that is responsible for fundraising, supporting school needs and developing community. It is our hope that every parent would be an active member of this group.
Did you know you can now stay in the loop with the PTO via the Remind app? Just text @becspt to 81010 to be added to the group, and never miss important information about upcoming meetings and events!
Pastries with the Principals
Do you want to hear more about what is going on at BECS in a smaller setting? Join Ms. Shaver and Dr. Kohl, have a pastry, and enjoy some time asking questions and hearing all about BECS progress toward its goals and other topics. There is no ongoing commitment to attend. However, we would like to plan for food so please let us know if you will join us on September 17th at 8:45am RSVP HERE. Please remember any adult entering BECS will be asked to bring their ID and be scanned into the building.
