What's Happening in MI?
February
Welcome to another month of MI!
Right now we are in the process of finishing up our huge lab of the year. The students have grown bacteria, given them extra DNA, made them use the DNA to glow green, then isolated out the green protein, purified it and ran a gel electrophoresis on it. Tomorrow we will be looking at the results of our electrophoresis to see if all our hard work paid off!! Then they will be doing some paperwork to finish up this lab.
On wednesday and thursday, we have block schedule due to ARP, so we will spend that time reviewing for their test and they can start working on their next unit - which covers cancer. On Friday, they have a test over gene therapy and the pLGO protein electrophoresis lab.
For the rest of the month, we will be studying cancer and how it works - especially on the genetic level. We will look at cancer vs normal cells, Gene expressions, DNA microarrys and then a statistical analysis of the DNA microarray results. This will take us into March.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Rachell Weiss
