Paola Middle School introduces PRIDE Time!

Paola Middle School students were introduced to their 'PRIDE Time' teams in December. Pride Time is a new initiative at Paola Middle School designed to guide students in creating Personal Learning Plans.

These multi-age groups will serve multiple purposes:

TEAM Building

-Foster trusting relationships with other students at Paola Middle School.

-Learn from and share experiences that will allow for success.

Foundations Program

-Explore the meaning of the Paola Middle School Foundations statement.

-Discuss the quarterly Character Education traits.

Develop a Personal Learning Plan

-Explore how each student can take greater responsibility for their education.

-Set a clear direction to prepare themselves for higher education and careers.

In December, teams focused on getting to know each other and setting a personal goal for themselves. When teams meet in January, individual students will reflect on their Fall MAP test results and set a goal for improving this score this spring.

We are excited about the opportunities PRIDE Time offers our students and look forward to sharing more in future publications.

Panther Book Club

3rd Quarter Panther Book Club Book has been announced! Panther Book Club is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10 from 3 until 4PM. Panther Book Club is open to everyone- contact Mrs. Yerkes for additional information.

This is a fun book about the class clown, popular with most kids, (if not the teachers), and an ardent fan of all games: board games, word games, and particularly video games. His hero, Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative gamemaker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the building of the new town library.

This lucky student wins a coveted spot to be one of the first 12 kids in the library for an overnight of fun, food, and lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors remain locked. Kyle and the other winners must solve every clue and every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route. And the stakes are very high.

In this cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and A Night in the Museum, Agatha Award winner Chris Grabenstein uses humor to create the perfect tale for his quirky characters. Old fans and new readers will become enthralled with the crafty twists and turns of this ultimate library experience.

Count Down is on to moving into the new rooms.

We are just a few short weeks away from having access to the two new classrooms constructed at Paola Middle School thanks to the Bond passed in 2014. These classrooms, built to be the Tornado Shelters for our school, have been built to withstand 250 MPH winds. Students enrolled in Music and in Computer Applications this quarter will be the first to use these classrooms. New Evacuation routes have been created to ensure all building inhabitants will safely find shelter in these rooms during inclement weather. The pictures below show the rooms in different stages so not to ruin the surprise after move in day!

Friday Night School Changes for 3rd Quarter

Paola Middle School will be tweaking their Friday Night School Program during 3rd Quarter. This Program is in place to help with students At-Risk of Failing to get work completed and turned in for partial credit. Traditionally it is held on the last 5 Fridays of each quarter. This quarter we are planning to still run the program for 5 Fridays but start earlier with the intent of catching kids earlier to allow them to refocus and get on tract sooner.

The dates for Friday Night School this quarter are:

  • January 22
  • February 5
  • February 19
  • February 26
  • Thursday, March3

Grade Cards Available On-Line

A reminder that your child's grades are available to you 24/7 on-line on Infinite Campus. 2nd Quarter Grades have been posted for your convenience. If you are needing a printed copy for your records please contact Paola Middle School and we will be happy to provide one for you.

Student Council Updates

Student Council is busy planning activities for this Spring. Staff Appreciation Week will be celebrated Feb. 16-19. In addition, students should be listening for information during morning announcements in February about an upcoming Scavenger Hunt and another Movie Night when the weather gets warmer.

We are looking forward to hearing more from our SADD Group. Students are planning a 3 on 3 event, but haven't got the date settled yet. Updates will be posted on the Paola Middle School Facebook page and will be in the announcements.
