Oakland Bay Jr. High OBJ
Weekly Update - January 29, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Please encourage your child to read at home! Students should be bringing home a book from their ELA classroom to read outside of school. Ask your child what they are reading?
All students are expected to have a binder, paper, and pencils with them everyday as they move from class to class. We have supplies in the office if your student needs them.

AMAZING WORK!
LEADERSHIP WITH OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Our Athletic Director, Mark Smith spoke to our 6th period Leadership class this week about what it means to be an effective leader. He asked the students what they do to contribute to the OBJ community and how they use their leadership skills to support other students!
COUNSELING UPDATE
In preparation for the upcoming high school registration, Mrs. Adams, our 8th-grade School Counselor, visited Science classrooms this week to assist our 8th graders in the development of their High School and Beyond Plans (HSBP).
The HSBP is a graduation requirement designed to guide students in getting the most out their high school journey by prompting them to think about their future aspirations. This plan is centered around three fundamental questions:
Who Am I?
What can I become?
How do I become that?
Students began by identifying their personality traits, interests, skills, and values. They also participated in a career quiz aimed at aligning their attributes with specific career paths. We encourage you to take a moment to ask your 8th grader what they discovered about themselves through this process.
The High School and Beyond Plan will undergo updates annually throughout high school to accommodate high school assessments, transcript reviews, and evaluations of progress toward established goals. For further details regarding the High School and Beyond Plan requirement, please click here.
9TH GRADE ORIENTATION - AT THE PAC AT SHS
STUDENT INCENTIVE FOR NO TARDIES IN 2 WEEKS!
BASKETBALL PHOTOS
We have lots of boys turning out for basketball this year. There are five teams. A varsity squad at each grade level, plus a junior varsity team at each grade level, and a third team for our 8th graders, JV2. All five teams are competitive and hustle. Players are improving from game to game! It is fun to watch!
