Bibb Strategic Plan Design Begins
Design Team Mapping Out a Plan to Drive Future of Education
The Bibb County School District’s Strategic Planning Design Team began working with Engage2Learn on Tuesday, January 24, and Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Design Team members represent various stakeholder groups, including parents, students, teachers, principals, assistant principals, district leadership, and community partners. During the next few months, the team will work together to develop a comprehensive five-year strategic plan that will help shape the future of Bibb County Schools.
“The first two days of collaboration on our strategic plan were amazing! The honesty, openness, and thoughtful input and engagement of these team members will continue to be critical as we seek to create learning experiences for our students that will prepare them for their future,” said Superintendent Dr. Dan A. Sims. “I was especially honored and moved to have several of our students present. These students were just as engaged as the adults in the room, and will help remind us throughout the development of this plan of what it is we’re working toward – building a better Bibb for everyone.”
Several Board of Education members also were in attendance to observe the process of the first two days of design work with Engage2Learn. Prior to the design team’s first meeting, Board members engaged in the Strategic Plan design process during a retreat session with Engage2Learn, working to identify a set of beliefs to serve as an additional guide for this important work.
“The strategic planning process allows us to develop a recipe for an amazing product — and that product is a well-rounded, well-cared for, well-prepared Bibb County graduate equipped for their future,” said Board President Juawn Jackson, who observed the Strategic Planning Design Team session on the first day.
During the first two days, team members worked on identifying student learner profiles, belief statements, a call to action, and an in-depth analysis of district data as well as stakeholder input from the surveys and community engagement sessions held in November and December.
“It was exciting to see teachers, principals, parents, and community partners come together, look at data, and determine the next steps to make our county soar into the future,” said team member Jana Lambert, who is Springdale Elementary School's Teacher of the Year. “The most exciting part was the collaboration efforts that help develop and identify critical areas of need. Even though we all saw things a little differently, our main goal was what we want for our students. Leaders encouraged, supported, and made it a safe place for all to share their concerns and successes in our county. I am extremely fortunate and honored to be a part of this process.”
Dr. Chendra Dupree, Principal of Central High School, said she is excited to be a part of the design team because the work impacts the future of Bibb Schools.
“The first two days were engaging, meaningful and full of innovative ideas. The entire team works well together and everyone's thoughts and opinions are respected,” Dr. Dupree said. “During the two days, I noticed the awesome dynamics of the team. It was a diverse group of stakeholders collaboratively working together to bring our next strategic plan to life. I am anticipating more wonderful collaboration with the team in the development of not only a strategic plan, but a road map that will lead Bibb to greatness!”
Team member Trixy Hanson echoed these sentiments. Mrs. Hanson is serving as a representative on the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council for 2022-23 and she has two sons who attend Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School.
“I was thrilled to participate in the Bibb County strategic planning meeting as a parent. I was surrounded by community members, principals, teachers, and board members. All of the stakeholders that attended these meetings worked amazingly together to support the new upcoming strategic plan for Bibb County,” Mrs. Hanson said. “I truly think that parent involvement is the most important thing you can do to give back to your kids’ education and to the community. You get more out of what you put in. We all have to be supportive of the entire process. We have to come together to all have an ‘ALL IN MENTALITY.’ We all have to continue to support each other and build up the ones around us that need more support. Our community and schools deserve it and have earned it. I support Dr. Sims and his colleagues and trust they will develop and BUILD the best for Bibb.”
The strategic planning process with Engage2Learn will include four phases (engage, design, create and lead) and will result in a comprehensive five-year plan that outlines the strategic goals, mission, and vision that will help guide the District’s priorities while incorporating student data, extensive research on best practices, and on-going engagement opportunities with all stakeholders.
The District completed the first step in the process – the community engagement phase – in November and December with focus group work sessions with parents, students, teachers and principals; a series of Education Summits where students, parents, staff, Board members, and community members shared their ideas, concerns, and questions; and an online survey open to all stakeholders.
Updates on the development of the Strategic Plan will be shared during monthly Board of Education meetings.
