Third & Fourth Grade Updates
Week of November 14
It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is a little over a week away! If you have not signed up for conferences which are being held on Monday and Tuesday of next week, please do so immediately. You can use the following links to schedule your conference:
- 3rd/4th Grade (Nolting): http://signup.com/go/cN3jfA
- 3rd/4th Grade (Silva): http://signup.com/go/cRjL9S
- Mr. Ivan (Math): http://signup.com/go/nvUzpa
Mrs. Silva and I are scheduled for separate conferences; please note that if you signed up with only one of us, that is the only teacher you are meeting with. We are, of course, more than happy to meet together if time permits. Please let us know if that is your preference so we can try to accommodate that. If your child is in Mr. Ivan's math group, we encourage you to make a conference directly with him as he is in charge of your child's daily math instruction.
With the upcoming breaks, it's important for your child to continue practicing Spanish at home. At the end of this newsletter, I have included some links for you to use with your child so they can continue practicing. We have made a lot of progress and it's vital that we continue. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Once again, I am asking for volunteers to help with reading and math in Spanish throughout the week. If you are available, please let me know at jnolting@hrrsjda.org along with the dates and times of your availability. I appreciate your help!
Have a wonderful week,
Mrs. Nolting
In Class This Week
We are finishing up our look at the circulatory system this week. I was very impressed with both classes at what they have learned and how well they can explain the different parts of the circulatory system and their functions. At the end of this week, we will next begin our look at the respiratory system. We need 2 liter plastic bottles for one of our projects--please send in clean 2L bottles if you have any. We will need these for the beginning of December.
Math
All students should be practicing their math facts daily, with a special focus on multiplication and division. IXL is an excellent resource for this. If you have forgotten your child's login, please let me know so I can send you their username and password.
My math group has started chapter 5 on Data and Probability. We are looking at finding the average, median, mode and range as well as using graphs and determining probability. It looks to be a very fun chapter!
Language Arts
Third grade will continue working on the future tense, finishing up our short books we started a couple weeks ago before I was out. We will also get to share these with our PreK4 friends when we read with them again! Yesterday we read El hombre de kamisibai and students enjoyed learning a little about this artform.
Fourth grade is currently reading a short biography of Thomas Edison and learning a bit about his inventions. We will be looking at reflexive verbs, particularly those related to daily routine.
Social Studies
Both grades will look at different kinds of maps this week (political, climate, topographic) and their uses. We will work on developing map skills leading up to students creating their own maps.
