Summer Reading Information

All students are highly encouraged to read over the summer to avoid the summer slide, but only students going into Advanced Placement English classes (AP Language or AP Literature) have a reading requirement. The requirements for DFHS can be found here. Go ahead and bookmark those pages so you can find them later. If you have questions about summer reading, please contact Mrs. Carol Jackson, English Department Head, at cjackson@lexrich5.org.

Per District policy, no schedule change request will be accepted after June 15th except for the following: (See district course catalog, page 2.)
Credit has been earned during summer school
Prerequisite course was failed
There is a computer/clerical error
A request for teacher change will not be granted unless the student previously failed a course with a scheduled teacher and then only if space permits.
School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties
2019 High School Summer Program
APEX (ON-LINE)
Eligibility:
Students must have previously failed a course to be eligible for credit recovery. Participation in credit recovery will not affect a student’s GPA. Should a student wish to modify his/her GPA, he/she should repeat the full course for credit and not seek participation in the credit recovery Program.
Students are eligible for a credit recovery course if they have previously taken and failed an initial credit (first attempt) course. Students must have obtained a grade of 50 or higher (50-59) in the initial credit course, or the student is not eligible for credit recovery and must retake the full course to receive credit.
Students will be required to complete an application to request placement in a Summer School Application for credit recovery course. Consent of the student’s parent/legal guardian must be obtained prior to enrollment.
When a student has shown mastery of the credit recovery material, the student will receive credit for the course. Student grades in credit recovery courses are designed to be GPA-neutral,meaning that the student’s GPA will not be affected by the student’s grade in the course. The failing grade in the initial credit course will remain on the student’s transcript. If the student passes the credit recovery course with a 60 or higher, the passing grade will be entered as “P.” If the student does not pass, the failing grade will be entered as “NP.” Neither the “P” or “NP” grade designation will impact the student’s GPA.
Registration for all students is May 6 – June 20 at the home school.
VirtualSC - Options for Summer Initial Credit and Credit Recovery
Requests for enrollment in VirtualSC courses must be made through the assigned School Counselor.
This information comes from the VirtualSC Program.
Students must register using their current grade level.
Registration closed for all initial credit courses on May 29th. Late requests will not be accepted.
Credit Recovery options are available based on earning a failing final grade of 50-59. Registration ends for VirtualSC Credit Recovery June 5th. The final grade reported for a VirtualSC Credit Recovery course will follow the District’s grading process stated above and will not be available until August 5th.
Contact your School Counselor and visit https://virtualsc.org/ for more information.
Please Note: Counselor approval does not guarantee placement into a course. If a student requests a waitlisted course, they will be placed into a section should a seat become available.
The Final Exam for Initial Credit is scheduled for July 30 here at Dutch Fork HS. Students will be sent a email to sign up for a specific time to come and take their exam.
