Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of February 20, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
The month of February is quickly coming to an end. It has been a great month for our students, from learning about great people in black history to cheering on our winter sport programs. Dr. Gruccio sent a letter to parents about the changes in the schools in the upcoming weeks. Here at the High School I sent an email to parents to inform them of what the changes will be at the High School. Shields have been removed in the cafeteria and classrooms. Students may still use a shield that will be available for them as needed. Masks will be required on all buses but will be optional for all students and staff starting March 7, 2022. Hopefully we are seeing this pandemic begin to subside and let us get back to normal.
Our students involved with the PACE program continue to attend on site manufacturing presentations at the New Jersey Manufacturing Exploration Program (NJMEP).
On February 22,2022, there was another meeting of the Coalition Teen Summit. Raul Restrepo attended the virtual meeting and worked with other teens around the county to prepare for the in person Teen Summit at Atlantic Cape Community College in March.
Mock Trial students continued to make EHT proud as they headed to the championships on February 24 at the courthouse in Atlantic City. The team will compete in the Atlantic County Championship against Mainland. The Mock Trial team went 3-0 in the regular season by defeating Hammonton High, Atlantic Christian, and ACIT. Good luck Legal Eagles!
Our AP Government Class, under the direction of Mr. Martirone, was featured on the latest episode of the Washington Post's podcast President. See below for a link to check it out!
On February 24, 2022 we inducted 115 students into the National Honor Society. To qualify for NHS induction, students must be in the top 20% of their class and show extraordinary character, leadership, service and scholarship. We congratulate all inductees!
Our Unified Sports Program traveled to Ocean City to compete against their athletes in a basketball game this past Tuesday, February 15. Student athletes had a great time as there were no winners but plenty of participation followed by a pizza party given by Ocean City for all the athletes!
Tonight, February 25, our eyes are focused on the High School gym which will be the start of the wrestling regionals! We have 3 students who qualify. It’s exciting to have wrestlers from the region here in our facility for the next 2 days trying to advance to the states!
Congratulations to Taylor Rooney and Addie Umphlett who came in 6th in the pole vault at sectionals and will advance to the state track and field.
Our Spring Crew teams will open their season with official practice on February 26. Best of luck to both our boys and girls crew teams this year!
Some dates to consider:
2/25 and 2/26 Wrestling Regions at EHT. Tickets available on the NJSIAA site. No tickets at the door.
2/26 Boys and Girls Track and Field State Championship in Toms River
2/28 Girls Basketball 1st round of State Tournament Home @ 5:00 v Toms River East
Boys Basketball 1st round of State Tournament Home @ 7:00 v ACIT
Until next week, have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
Nominee: Aubrey Lloyd
Nominated by: Judy Tucci
Aubrey is an outstanding student. She enters the classroom with positivity, maturity, respect and even finds time to mentor other students.
Nominee: Adam Gad
Nominated by: Amanda Jerome
Adam is such a kind and considerate young man. He takes great pride in himself, our classroom, and our school. He takes time at the end of class, as he leaves, to tidy after himself and other students. Today, he threw out a paper towel another student left on their desk without any hesitation. It was just such a lovely small act of kindness.

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Student Assistance Program and Resources
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative!
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
