Promotion Policy Update for Elementary School Students

CPS has made an important change to our Elementary Promotion policy. Beginning this year, promotion for students in benchmark grades 3, 6, and 8 will be determined based on the student’s final grades in Reading and Math and will not take into account any assessment scores. Students with final failing grades in Reading and/or Math for both the 21-22 school year and the 20-21 school year will be required to successfully complete summer school to be promoted to the next grade level.

These changes were put in place by CPS and the Board of Education to allow the district time to understand how to assess student performance in the wake of learning disruptions created by the pandemic. These recent adjustments also allow the district to assess student performance from a historical perspective, instead of at one point in time. Electronic versions of the 2021-2022 School/Parent Guide to the Elementary School Promotion Policy may currently be found in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Arabic and Urdu.

  • Would like to take a moment to show appreciation to Mr. Garcia. He has done an amazing job filling in for Ms. Main while on leave. We were nervous about starting a new year in person with so many uncertainties. Mr. Garcia has been with room 209 since the beginning of the year. This group of students and parents could not thank him enough for all that he has done. He greets all the students and parents in the morning with such a warm welcome. Mr. Garcia has gone above and beyond to connect with the students. Hearing from students that he took the initiative to check on them during recess after a few incidents shows how much he cares about these students. We are so lucky to have you Mr. Gracia! --From Summer A
  • To Boone - Thank you for being a great school/community i love you all. --From Hannah H

Parente Portal

Parent Portal

Parent Portal gives parents the ability to view students' grades in real time. If you are setting up your Parent Portal account for the first time, please visit the First Time Parent Portal Set-Up link. This is a one-time step and not necessary after every school year. Once you receive your email from Aspen to help set up your username and password, you can access Parent Portal at Aspen Parent Portal.

If you already have a Parent Portal account, but are running into technical issues (forgot password, locked out, etc), please email Boone's tech coordinator Patrick Chi (ptchi@cps.edu) so he can reset your account. Once your account is reset, you should receive an email from Aspen with further instructions. Additional information provided by the district can be found at this link.
