The Church dedicates the month of October to the Most Holy Rosary. October 7, specifically, is the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary. The origin of the date comes from the Battle of Lepanto. Ottoman Turks were driven back by a combination of Christian forces. The victory was attributed to intercession of Mary after a group in Lepanto was reciting the Rosary for the Christian forces during the battle. TheRosary.online is one of many great resources for praying the Rosary. I pray that everyone has an outstanding October.
Yours in Christ,
Glenn Plummer

Mental Illness Awareness Week
"Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. However, mental illness affects everyone directly or indirectly through family, friends or coworkers. That is why each year, during the first week of October, NAMI and participants across the country raise awareness of mental illness, fight discrimination and provide support through Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW)." from the NAMI MIAW website.
The theme for this year's NAMI is "Together for Mental Health" and focuses on the importance of advocating for better care for those with serious mental illness. The NAMI MIAW website features the videos of people with lived experience talking about their everyday lives coping with their serious mental illness and the need for better crisis response and mental health care.
The O.F.F. has re-activated its webpage from last year's MIAW Project. On it you can find the recordings of the live streams and workshops with Roy Petitfils, and the handouts from these programs, along with many resources on mental health.
October 5 is the National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding. The O.F.F. also has prayer cards of St. Dymphna, patron saint of mental illness, and St. John of God, patron saint of hospitals, nurses, and the sick, available for $0.05 each plus postage. These would make a wonderful give-away to youth and parishioners to raise awareness of and show support for those who suffer from mental illness.

Character Strong
The Eight Essentials of the program are Kindness, Humility, Honesty, Selflessness, Respect, Forgiveness, Patience, and Commitment. The first four lessons have focused on "setting the stage." This included building connections, community, and agreements within the groups. The next few lessons will be about values and purpose.
Updates on the program will be provided in this newsletter throughout the year.
