Simpsonville Spotlight!
Mr. Hicks' Parent Newsletter: End-of-School Edition
Thank You!
I can't say thank you enough for partnering with our Simpsonville Staff over the past two months' worth of NTI time. Our goal throughout the NTI process has been to make an abnormal situation feel normal for your child, and through Zoom meetings, phone calls, Remind messages, and more, I hope that we have achieved this milestone! On behalf of our entire Simpsonville Elementary Family, I'd like to express how incredibly grateful we are for letting our team be a part of your student's life at home. We love and miss our students dearly!
You'll find several updates regarding the end of our school year below. Please read the following information carefully, and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or need any clarification! Even though our school year is ending on May 15th, know that we are always here for your family!

Drop Off and Pick Up Dates and Information: May 19th - May 22nd
Starting on May 19th, our school will set up a drive-thru style system for families to return to Simpsonville to pick up any belongings that were left in school, as well as to return school items that have been used at home. Each family will have a specific date to come to school based on their child's last name, and both an AM and PM timeframe will be available to accommodate families' schedules. When you arrive at school, please head towards the bus parking lot, and you will see cones directing you towards our pick up and drop off stations. Students and families will remain in their vehicles as they navigate through the various stops.

Questions and Answers
Question: Can my child access Lexia and Dreambox over the summer?
- Absolutely! Lexia and Dreambox will be available until June 30th for students to use.
Question: Have spring picture proofs been delivered to school?
- Yes! Your student's spring picture proofs have been delivered to school, and they will be given to you at your assigned roll in date (May 19th - May 22nd). When you get your proofs, you can order pictures online and can have them shipped directly to your home!
Question: How do I know which library books my child has checked out?
- Mrs. Falkenstine has emailed teachers with a checkout report, so parents can ask your child's classroom teacher which titles you have checked out at the moment. You are also welcome to contact Mrs. Falkenstine at karen.falkenstine@shelby.kyschools.us if you have any additional questions. Our library books have a spine label along with a Simpsonville Elementary barcode label on the back. Feel free to reread and keep in a safe place until you are able to return.
Question: Will the Kindergarten & First Grade musical (and other events) be rescheduled?
- Our ADORABLE K-1 show, "Go Fish!", was days away from being performed before our shut down occurred. Luckily, the show will go on! What was going to be our K-1 performance this year will turn into our 1-2 performance next school year! More information about this performance, and every other rescheduled event, will be pushed out to families as we receive more information.
Question: Are Art to Remember items available to be picked up?
- Unfortunately, the facility that produces Art to Remember items has been closed down during the COVID-19 quarantine. As soon as we receive these items, we will notify parents about a system for picking them up!
Question: Have Yearbooks come in yet?
- Like Art to Remember, the facility that creates Yearbooks has also been closed down. As soon as we receive yearbooks, we will find a way to get these to students and families.
Question: Is Jumprope for Heart going to continue?
- It will! This year's Jumprope for Heart event will be rolled over into next year's competition.
Question: Can I return my fifth grade band student's instrument?
- Yes! Any 5th grade parent wishing to return a band instrument needs to contact Conrad Music Service at (812) 738-2111 for information about that process.
