A Message From Our Superintendent

August 31, 2020

Dear GPISD School Community,

I am so thankful our GPISD community was spared by Hurricane Laura, and am keeping our friends and loved ones to the east of us in my thoughts and prayers as they do the hard work of recovering from the devastation the storm caused.

To be sure, this school year already is quite different than anything we have ever experienced, but please hear my new mantra: TOGETHER, WE WILL! We WILL be successful as we provide a high-quality education to our students and will thrive as we face every challenge in our paths, because that's what we do, and that's who we are. We face our challenges head-on, and we overcome them, with each other's help. I challenge our students and families to join us in adopting this can-do attitude as we embark on the 2020-2021 school year. Again, TOGETHER, WE WILL!

One other reminder: we are still not out of the woods when it comes to COVID-19. Please continue to mask up, social distance, and follow all the health and safety protocols recommended by health officials to keep us all safe and healthy.

Please check GPISD's Reopening 2020 webpage ( several times per week, for up-to-the-minute information about our Reopening plans and procedures.

Be Safe,

John C. Moore, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Moore's interview with KPRC 2

Our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Moore, was interviewed by GPISD alumnae and KPRC 2 reporter, Cathy Hernandez, to talk about the District's preparation plans for the return of students in October.

Curbside Meal Update

Galena Park I.S.D. will offer meal service for students beginning September 8th.

We will offer two options to accommodate as many students as possible:

  • The first option is a curbside service to help accommodate working parents' schedules. This option will be offered twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • The second option is a bus delivery system with designated sites and stops. Bus delivery will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

Students must be pre-registered and be enrolled in the district to receive meals from the bus stop locations. If you have chosen the bus option and miss your pick-up, you can stop by a curbside site to pick up your meals.

(Note: The bus delivery participation form was sent to parents via email on August 19, 2020)
