From The Principal
Greetings Lamkin families,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed spending time with your loved ones. Our annual Grandparents’ Day was a special treat for our guests and the students loved singing and performing. This event was a great way to start the Thanksgiving week.
Please read below for information and updates:
- Thank you for your support of Adventure Dash! The students had a wonderful time and Lamkin raised $21,279 from the generosity of Lamkin families and friends. The funds will be used throughout the year for supplemental learning materials and supplies for classroom use for all grade levels.
- Thank you for supporting our book fair! $4,000 was raised for the library and the funds will be used for new books and upcoming author visits. Thank you so much for all your support towards the Lamkin Library!
- As the holiday season approaches, it's important for parents and guardians to be reminded of the importance of good school attendance. Missing even a single day of school can result in a significant amount of missed instruction and learning opportunities for your child. With important assessments coming up in the next few weeks, it's especially crucial that students are present and engaged in their classes. These exams provide teachers with valuable information that allows them to tailor their instruction to the specific needs of each student. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time and ready to learn every day. By doing so, you are helping to set your child up for success both now and in the future.
- We will have a “Polar Express Day” at Lamkin on December 21st. Students are encouraged to wear their pajamas (with tennis shoes) and classes will enjoy treats provided by our Lamkin PTO. This is a fun day of learning and for classes to enjoy time together before the two-week break. Teachers and grade levels will decide when they will enjoy the treats on this day, and it will be for students only and there will be no lunch visitors on this day.
- Our students will be learning about these character traits during the month of December: Generosity and Responsibility.
- CFISD campuses will be closed from Friday, December 22, 2023, to Friday, January 5, 2024, for the winter break. Learning will resume on Monday, January 8, 2024.
- CFISD is developing a plan to consider becoming a District of Innovation. Please preview the plan below and see details for providing input:
- House Bill 1842, passed during the 84th Legislative Session, permits Texas public school districts to become Districts of Innovation and to obtain exemptions from certain provisions of the Texas Education Code that are available to open charter enrollment schools.
- On October 9, 2023, the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD School Board approved a resolution to initiate the process of becoming a District of Innovation, held a public hearing on Districts of Innovation and agreed to have the members of the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) serve as the District of Innovation Committee. The committee met on October 19, 2023, November 2, 2023, and November 14, 2023 to develop the proposed plan.
- The proposed plan is posted on the district website for 30 days from November 17, 2023 to December 16, 2023, and a public meeting will be held on December 14, 2023, for stakeholders to give feedback on the proposed plan.
- Upon approval of the proposed plan by the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (majority vote required to pass), the proposed plan will be placed on the CFISD Board of Trustees agenda for consideration in January 2024 (2/3 majority to pass).
