Parenting Corner (Volunteering)
Yesterday we had several Turner Ashby students tidying up our science courtyard as part of TA’s “Day of Service.” They worked hard. It is always encouraging to see adolescents putting community needs in front of their own (and it was great to see some former MVES students).
Speaking of volunteering, next week your child(ren)’s teacher will be sending home a “Parent Volunteer Form” along with “Expectations for Volunteers” (in both English and Spanish). As we move closer to the endemic phase of COVID-19, we’re really excited to welcome parents back into our building and work more closely with families and the PTO. Please complete it and return to your child’s teacher!

From the School Nurse
COVID is still around and FLU season is coming upon us.
Here are some ways to protect your child and your family:
1. Keep children who are sick at home. Don’t send them to school.
2. Teach your children to wash hands a lot with soap and water for twenty (20) seconds.
3. Teach your children to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow.
4. Teach your children to stay at least three (3) feet away from people who are sick.
5. People who are sick should stay home from work or school and avoid other people until they are better.
If you are unsure whether your child should attend school or not feel free to contact Nurse Angie at (540) 438-1965 or email atusing@rickingham.k12.va.us.
Parents Coming For Lunch
September is Attendance Awareness Month
When possible, consider scheduling doctor’s appointments and other obligations outside of school hours, on school holidays, or early releases. Whether an absence is excused or unexcused, it still equates to missed instruction, peer interaction and participation in extracurricular activities at school.
Attendance
Parent Portal
The parent portal is an online portal accessible anywhere on the web that parents can log in to and see all of their children in one place, their grades, assignments, scores, attendance, schedules, and teacher comments for each school your children attend.
Parents need to contact the school to get access information to create an account in PowerSchool.
