Wrangler Weekly
Week of October 31, 2022
Message from Ms. Bratton, principal
We have had a great week here at SBMS. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week and saw everything from dinosaurs to chickens and aliens to cowboys. Teachers and students found the joy this week!
We also celebrated our SBMS Wrobotics team led by Science and GT teacher Sarah Burkhardt (picture below) as they accepted a $15,000 grant thanks to our amazing PTA and grant/scholarship chair Kate Olsen. This grant will help keep this amazing team growing as they take their recent first place win over both high schools and middle schools and compete at the state level in December.
EIGHTH GRADE PARENTS:
This Thursday, Nov. 3, our 8th graders will be taking the PSAT 8/9. Please be sure your scholar has a good night's sleep and a solid breakfast. A student's performance on this test will not be a determining factor for any future course or program, but it will help guide them on areas to focus on for future success and will be linked to Khan Academy for practice opportunities.
Also, looking ahead for our 8th graders -- please read the information below on SV's Advanced Academics Night carefully. Your 8th grader will be making their 4 Year Plan for high school in the next few weeks, so please put Nov. 16 on your calendar. The more you know, the easier the planning will be.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend --
Go Wranglers!
Ms. Bratton

8th Grade PSAT Testing - Thursday, Nov 3rd
Please avoid scheduling any appointments for your 8th grader on this day.
Welcome Dr. Chapman - Nov 3rd
Advanced Academics Night - Wednesday, Nov 16th
This event will help navigate the four year plan that is required for all 8th graders. If your student is in Honors or preAP classes now OR if you anticipate your student enrolling in a course for college credit in high school, you should attend.
Important information on the differences between on-level and honors and preAP and AP and Dual Credit and UT OnRamps will be provided to help you and your student match up the type of program with not only their learning style but also their after high school plans.
SV teachers AND students from each advanced class will be available to answer questions about anything and everything -- What is the course about? How has it helped you so far? How do you manage this class and band (or sports or dance or cheer)? How much time do you spend studying for this class?
This is a once a year opportunity, and we cannot recommend it enough that you put this on your calendar. Eighth grade parents AND students should make every effort to attend if you are even considering preAP/honors/AP classes for 9th grade.
Presenters Needed for SBMS Career Day - Dec 2nd
On Friday December 2, SBMS is hosting our annual Career Day from 8:30-11am. We are excited to share the many different career opportunities our students could have in the future. There is a future for every student, and we want to help them realize it.
Would you like to share your career with our students? Do you know someone who would love to share their career with students?
Please complete this form (SBMS Career Day Presenters ) or contact Vera Borg at vera.borg@comalisd.org if you would like to help make an impact on the futures of SBMS students.
Congratulations to our Wranglers of the Week!
