Going into a career as a Book Editor, you need to have a Bachelors Degree or higher in English. A Degree somewhere in editing, journalism, or communications in looked for. Editor generally have an interest in reading, writing, grammar, and punctuation. You also have to be comfortable working with computers. Work such as volunteering and internships around editors can help better your appearance and experience in the career. Most Book Editors are college graduates. Publishing houses look for graduates with a good academic standing, interest in writing, and good communication.

In a Publish House there are a vary of editors. Like Acquisitions Editor, And Development Editor. Many editors work mainly in the area of Acquisitions. Their responsible for finding new material, reviewing material, and promoting or recommending them. These editors are competing to get their author accepted. Development Editors help the write put the book together. They help the outline and structure of the book with the editor.Those editors guide the writer as they go along.

In New York their editors average 53,500 per year, Editors at Penguin average 55,125 per year and the editors at Random House average 44,920 per year. This ranges from 63,00 to 43,500.
