AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM for grades 3, 4, and 5
Dear Grade 3, 4, and 5 Families,
We are excited to inform you that Governor Winslow’s After School Enrichment Program is rapidly approaching! Click on the link below to download this year's brochure. Our application will be available online through Google Forms on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 to all third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Families will receive a link via email, the GWS newsletter and website. Applications, along with a $60 fee, are due back no later than Monday, February 11, 2019. Classes will be held each Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 PM starting on Wednesday, February 28 and ending on Wednesday, April 3. Due to the amount of students participating in enrichment, we highly recommend carpooling and ask parents to follow the Car Line Dismissal procedures. We are looking forward to another exciting year of Enrichment!
Thank you,
Ms. Christine Lusardi
Enrichment Director
REMINDERS FOR PARENTS
ABSENCES: Please call in your child’s absence each day before 9:30 AM. If we do not receive a call, we will try to reach the parent or guardian with the Connect Ed System to account for the child. **Please be sure to contact the front office, even if you have reached out to your child's teacher.**
PUNCTUALITY: The school day begins at 8:50 AM. All students reporting late to school are required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the office to check in before going to his/her classroom.
In accordance with Chapter 76, Section I of Massachusetts General Law, Marshfield Public Schools is required to notify the parent/guardian of a student who has reached five (5) unexcused absences in a school year. Parents/Guardians will be notified by a letter when five (5) unexcused absences have been reached.
In the event that a student exceeds ten (10) unexcused absences, a parent/guardian is required to meet with an administrator to discuss his/her child’s attendance issues.
ALTERNATE BUS STOPS: When road conditions are hazardous to safe school bus travel, certain residential areas have been assigned alternate bus stops. Parents/guardians will be notified by the school district’s ConnectEd telephone system when alternate bus stops are to be used.
For complete details, visit https://www.mpsd.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=749
SCHOOL DISMISSAL: Please document all dismissal changes with a written note to your child’s homeroom teacher. The school must hear directly from a parent/guardian. Please remember that phone calls during the school day cause interruptions to the classroom and may lead to confusion at the end of the day.
NOTES TO SCHOOL: Please be sure to include your child’s first and last name plus homeroom teacher’s name on all correspondence regarding dismissal changes and absences.

FROM THE PTO
ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: This week all of GWS took time to learn about the cultural of Senegal with a visit from the West African Dance and Drum Troupe. Students and staff were introduced to the 21-string kora and djembe drum as well as a Senegalese harvest dance. The presentation was especially timely for our second graders who had just completing their unit on the music of Africa. Test your student’s new knowledge by asking how many countries are in Africa and what is the language Ouman, Forde, and Reynar used in school.
This program was sponsored by the GWS PTO and supported in part by a grant from the Marshfield cultural council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
THANK YOU to all of the families and volunteers who made Winterfest such a success. It was a wonderful evening for the children.
Our next PTO meeting is Wednesday, February 27 at 7PM. We will meet in the library. We always welcome new faces. Hope to see you there!
