Pre-K V-Day
Shout Out! to the NC Pre-K teachers at Jones ES for inviting parents to class on Valentine's Day to work on fun activities with their child. The students and their parents worked together to make cards, friendship bracelets and keychains. This was a great opportunity for the students to expand their communication, social development and fine motor skills while working with someone they loved. The parents were also able to see what a typical day might be like for their child in the Pre-K program and how much they are learning.

Merck Tour
Shout Out! to the Wilson Education Partnership (WEP) and Merck! Through its Career Connections Program, WEP is connecting students with careers in Wilson. WEP took 33 juniors and seniors in the IB Programme and their teachers on a trip to Merck. They toured certain areas of the facility and heard from a panel of leaders at the plant. The leaders discussed their career paths and their current job skills and responsibilities. Joining the panel was HR Director Andrea Peterson. She shared information about hiring, interviewing techniques, benefits, job openings and internships. Merck is a partner with WEP's Career Connections Program through their Neighborhood of Choice Grant. Special thanks to Rob Ferrell, WEP President-Elect and Merck employee, for arranging this visit!

School in the Spotlight - Jones ES
Check out these pictures of students at Jones ES working hard in their classes and interacting with their teachers and classmates. The kindergartners were so sweet waiting quietly to take a vocabulary test. Across the hall, students were using their fine motor skills to cut out letters to make words. On the other side of the building, Art Teacher Mr. Gufford led the fourth-graders in a lesson on expression artwork where they could really get creative. Meanwhile, students in Ms. Stewart's class were completely engaged as they played a game based on the book Bud, Not Buddy. Our students' smiling faces are what it's all about!
