A Letter from the Principal

Dear MDE Families,

We are back in the swing of things here at Mike Davis Elementary! If you were unable to join us for Curriculum Night on August 17th, please be sure that your child logs into Canvas so that you can view a Curriculum Night video posted by your teacher. Teachers introduce themselves, and discuss some of the important expectations for the year in these videos.

As you are setting your expectations at home for the school year, please be sure technology is also part of the discussion. Technology has become an important component of our lives, and it is imperative that you talk with your children about how they are using it appropriately. Kids love to connect with others online, so it is important to regularly discuss with your child who they are talking to and what the content of their discussions are about. For more resources about online safety and talking points, please visit www.commonsense.org.

Additionally, as you are planning for this school year, please be sure to use your Family Organization Station! These calendars are being sent home this week, and important dates for the school year are already included. You might consider hanging this calendar in a common area, like the refrigerator, so that your family can see important dates that are coming up.

As always, I am honored to be a part of the MDE family. If there is anything I can help with at all, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Warmest Regards,

Melissa Stamper

MDE Counselor's Corner

Hello Mike Davis Families!

I am so excited to be serving as the school counselor again this year as we Lead Like Rockstars! Our school year is off to a great start, and we are working hard every day to make learning fun and foster a sense of belonging among all our Mike Davis Rockstars! I wanted to reintroduce myself and give you a little more information about my role as the school counselor. I always tell students that my job at school is just to help students and that I am an extra friend at school for them to come and talk to! But what does that look like? And how can your child access school counseling services? As part of my role at I offer classroom guidance lessons with a focus on social emotional learning on topics such as, kindness, GRIT, emotional regulation, and coping skills. If a child has a personal, social or emotional need that is interfering with his/her academic progress they can also participate in individual or small group counseling with written parent permission. If you would like to have your child participate in a small group or individual counseling, please reach out to me! I am always happy to collaborate with parents and teachers to support students and help them reach their full potential! We’re going to have a great year!
